Says the non-KSU fan in a KSU thread.

We? When did WSU win the Big XII? And Brian, you're correct. It is a minor detail. So minor in fact, that I'm not even paying attention to it.

What mistake is that? I can't hear you with the championship nets in my ears.

yes you did. Anytime you lose every game played against an opponent they've swept you.

Everyone goes crazy for John Wooden and his 10 of 12 (and it is pretty amazing). I'm pretty partial to John McDonnell's domination of track and field, though.

Quote:

The track and field team was under the direction of legendary John McDonnell for over 25 years (since the 1977–78 academic year). McDonnell's men's teams have won 40 NCAA championships since 1984, including 11 cross country, 19 indoor track and 10 outdoor track along with 37 Southwest Conference Championships, and 38 of 40 SEC titles. The Razorbacks, under his direction, won five National Triple Crowns, achieved by winning NCAA titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track in the same school year. Arkansas and the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) are the only teams to have ever won the National Triple Crown. The track and field Razorbacks men completely dominated the sport during the 1990s, winning 24 of the 30 available titles
Edit: Heh, just realized that this thread isn't actually about significant historical accomplishments in sports. Sorry.

No, its relative. We are talking about significant accomplishments in second-tier sports.

I'm not sure what the greatest accomplishment in the history of sports is, but I do know that it has nothing to do with either KSU or KU this year.
Carl Lewis
Michael Phelps
Mark Spitz
good lord, there are lots and lots of candidates.

Care to point out any instances of that?
