Also apparently Matt Campbell wants the ND job.

Sassy Squatch 11-29-2021 08:15 PM

If anything will deter prospective coaches it's the fact thatND will be on the outside looking in if the resumes are comparable come CFP time until the expansion.

BryanBusby 11-29-2021 08:16 PM

Brian Kelly is ****ing high and you better bet Fickell's bags are already packed for ND.

Not saying it would happen, but I wonder if they'd go after Mullen (previous ND GA). I genuinely don't think he should have been fired at Florida (yet).

Throwing shit against the fan, but would Whittingham from Utah be of any interest? Recruits California well and coaches in an area with strong religious influence.

LSU is a better job today given the structure of the CFP.

ND needs to join a conference already.

Sassy Squatch 11-29-2021 08:18 PM

Yeah, from what I'm reading tonight ND is still absolutely a destination job.

Is there a Mora that ND would want?

Exactly. He peaked at ND. Good enough to get a ton of wins, but not good enough to actually compete with the big boys in the SEC. He wasn't gonna ever lead ND to a National Championship.

It is for about 95% of coaches, Kelly just got offered one of the roughly 10 that was an upgrade.

Yea and at ND you have a bunch of older fans that don't understand ND isn't what it use to be... Michigan has thar same issue. Those are great jobs, top 10 jobs but they aren't what they were when I was a kid.

Good for Riley, not so much for USC. If he couldn't win championships at OU, what are the chances of him doing it at USC? It's not like OU was some plucky directional school that overachieved with 2 star talent.

Not really.

LSU is Alabama's only real competition when every program in the West is at its best (Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, Miss St., A&M are all at a least step lower in terms of ceiling lower in a given year, IMO). Lose to Alabama, win the rest of your games, and you're still in. LSU is even more likely to get in when they expand to 12 regardless of Alabama.

The PAC 12 has 1 team he has to beat 1.

Oklahoma seems to be leaning to Venables as the next HC.

Rams Fan 11-29-2021 08:26 PM

Also, stuff like Kelly and Riley leaving further validates players being able to transfer.

Even if a player's transferred once, they should be able to get another free one if a coach leaves.

**** guys like Dabo Swinney for saying other wise.

Amazing how that wacko fan base functions.

So a thing floating around is that there will be pressure from ND decision makers to elevate Marcus Freeman to HC if Kelly does indeed leave.

Top coaching jobs according to the Athletic polling coaches.

Alabama

Ohio State

Orgeron won a National Championship two years ago with arguably one of the greatest college football teams of all time and is now looking for another job. Kelly is leaving a school that seemed content with what he produced for them (lots of wins, but no championships) to a school and program that evaluates their success in light of Alabama. He is going to be expected very early to beat Alabama and compete for championships. If he can't do that he will have a very short tenure at LSU.

I can't say that I agree. A lot of years, losing to Alabama alone = no SECCG

A&M is a team on the rise if they can stop going through QB's, Kiffin looks to be staying and the Hogs are on the up.

They also will not be patient with him. They will want results no later than year 3.

You don't have to win the West to make the POs (Alabama lost to Auburn in 2017 and missed the SECCG).

I think Jimbo's best days are behind him. I'd be concerned about Ole Miss but I don't think they have as large of a booster base as LSU to get more $ into the program. Arkansas will always be an after thought and need a coach like Pittman to put them into top half of the SEC.

RustShack 11-29-2021 08:34 PM

ND is one of two schools I worry about CMC leaving Iowa State for. It sounds like the Cincinnati coach, and their own DC are the top targets.

Obviously sometimes coaching searches go past the top two before finding someone. Feel a little better about their own DC being an option though.

Sure it's possible but I'd rather bet on making it into the playoffs because ND bullshit than hope the rest of the teams suck too much to qualify.

Not that LSU is a bad job because it's not. Just that ND is a good job too and he had security there he will never ever get at LSU.

I think Kelly would get on the hot seat at ND when/if they started missing POs by not being affiliated with a conference and starts losing recruits as a result.

Disagree on the bolded part. No reason to punish the players who worked hard to get where they are at because their coach chose to jump ship to another school.

I’d argue it’s tied for 2nd with Georgia and Florida.

Maybe don’t get kids to come to a meeting at 7 AM and then spend 11 minutes with them.

But considering who I’m responding to? I don’t have a ton of expectations when it comes to your intelligence.

Mark Stoops extended through 2027.

Time to build the statue.

Oh well, he still lost 3 games in his best season. Problem is he owns Mizzou.

The guy is a moron. He thinks it’s fine to end things this way with his team?

News flash, Brian. The country’s best recruits are being courted by other really outstanding coaches and programs in the country. You don’t think future players will look at your actions when making their choice?
