Being serious for a moment, Fortson was among those that took the most snaps on special teams with 13. Could've just been seeing what they have or Toub is planning on him being a key contributor while he transitions.

Typically, that would be a depth special teams LB or DB. So if ur down that LB or DB, then you need to make sure your extra TE or WR can handle those ST duties. Someone like Armani Watts may not make the team if you keep 4TE's and 6WR's, and he took more ST snaps than anyone on the team last season. So Fortson or Kemp or whomever needs to be able to do that job. Hence the extra looks. |
Random observation: Joshua Kaindoh is as raw as they come. This kid is at the bottom of the rotation after what I saw last week. That's not shocking considering the guys ahead of him though. Tim Ward and Mike Danna are playing good football right now.
We hit a home run with Trey Smith. Josh looks like a typical 5th round pick. Gonna take time if there's anything there. He very much looked like TK his rookie season. TK ended up being an average player, which wouldn't be bad for a mid day three pick. |
Not too sure we carry 6 WRs though.
Hill Hardman Robinson Pringle Powell Your most likely #6 is Kemp and he spent most of the time last season on the practice squad. |
I believe Kemp made the roster before he got injured

What i find interesting is that in camp reports it sounded like Powell was clearly behind Kemp and Fountain. The preseason depth chart though has Powell above both those guys. I don't think i'd be terribly surprised if Powell doesn't make the team. It'll be a close one to watch. I think he's a roster bubble player vying for a spot between he/Kemp/Fountain. |

Is there a problem with carrying 6 WR's and 4 TE's? Blake Bell is the only true blocking TE we have and he has solid hands. I'd rather have Bell than Kemp or Fountain.

I was excited about Powell until I saw him on tape, it's hard for me to get excited about a guy who looks that slow

So as Superturtle pointed out with Fortson's ST snaps, you need to make sure your extra TE or WR can block on FG's and run down field full speed and clock someone on a kickoff...the way a LB or S likely would. A tentative WR or TE that can't do those things can't make the team as your final roster bubble guys. You can't sacrifice good ST play for a developmental gadget guy. If that's the case, throw him on your PS. |
