I did yesterday but not on purpose. I don't feel the need to fast quite yet. Being as big as I am, it's east enough to burn calories.

Alright....about how many calories is everyone eating on their non-fast days?

I try to hit my BMR or a little below it on non-fast days if I'm trying to lose weight. If I'm in maintenance, I don't even worry about it.

This is awesome. ****ing everybody here is fasting.

I guess they figured if a dipshit gay pussy like me can do it, they should, too. I noticed it was just you and NewPhin, then I decided to give it a try, started raving, and now it's catching on.

I'm upping the ante, though. I've fasted today and I plan to fast tomorrow. If I feel OK, I might do three days.

Silock 05-11-2010 07:39 PM

John Barban did it for 5 days. Just sayin' ;) It would be awesome to beat that. I sure as **** won't do it.

I don't see the point in fasting unless your like silock and go crazy thursday-saturday. just eat healthy and under maintance and you'll lose. you can lose with a diet alone. add in exercise and your golden. but meh whatever..

Fasting is simpler than counting calories every day and being uber strict.

I have a really hard time eating 1500 calories a day. I'd rather fast one day and eat at maintenance or go a little over the next day. It's just simpler.

Fasting is quicker, too, or at least it has been in my experience.

Taking the basic assumption of calories in vs. calories out, that means all dieting boils down to maintaining a caloric deficit. While this can be achieved through basic dieting, the fact is that it's much harder than it appears. Caloric counts are often deceptive, we forget about things we "ate" (like milk/cream in coffee), and we cheat without counting. On top of that, it's a pain in the ass to count, count, count (once again, going back to calories in vs. calories out).

Fasting is very, very simple. Cut out two days of calories and start averaging your C-In vs. C-out on a weekly basis, and it becomes very, very easy to maintain a weekly deficit.

I ended my fast with 850 calories worth of pizza. Did I defeat the purpose of fasting? I do feel like I have ate enough for the week.

How big of weekly calory defecit should the average person strive for?

Personally I don't like this dinner-to-dinner fast idea.

The idea of a fast, to me, is to go one day without eating. I fast from midnight to midnight.

Not at all as far as defeating the purpose as long as you don't continue to eat at 850 calories a meal for the next 24 hours. Even then (assuming you have no added calories or snacking), you'd come out to an average of 2550 calories for 48 hours, which is 1275 per day, which is below most guy's BMR.

3500 calories per week. That's a 500 calorie deficit per day. That's a pound of fat loss from diet alone, not including any exercise you might do.

That'd be tough. I could probably do it but my wife might get mad at me.
