If you want to use exclusives as a reason, then your console costs you $900 +tax. Or else you only get half.

There are still only a handful of exclusives.

If you like the console exclusives fine, but that in no way validates the platform as better than PC, since as always, PC does what console does, but better. Far better.

Another advantage for PC....

I don't think piracy can really be considered an "advantage".

PC is great because you can do virtually everything on it even outside of gaming and it's completely customizable and limitless. Work, school, gaming, audio, tv, hosting.. all of it in one box.

Consoles are good for just having a central and specialized gaming platform and these days have a ton of exclusive titles so for some of the big names like Madden or whatever, it's that specific console or nothing (which makes consoles a bullshit corporate policy wet dream). Apples and oranges really..

No, I completely get it. I've been exclusively a PC gamer virtually my entire life, from TRS-80 giant floppy disks playing frogger as a toddler to MSDOS games to Quake, Counter-Strike and on down the line and had the PC Master Race mentality too. Then I realized the argument for what it is: apples and oranges.

Outside of exclusive titles, there is virtually no advantage to consoles as a gaming platform, but that doesn't make it any less viable or convenient or popular. Want to use a controller? Buy one for a PC. There's absolutely nothing to argue about because it is what it is. Consoles are such a big thing because it's appealing to the mainstream and casuals because everything is prepackaged and corporatized. Even the "well I don't want to spend $1000 on a PC" doesn't even hold water because you can buy a mid range $600-800 rig and run virtually anything these days and still be able to upgrade in the future as needed. Next Gen consoles are what, $500? And then you still pay $60 per title and factor in the HD TV and you've spent way more than you would on a PC.

Considering the top 4 or so games watched on twitch are LoL, Dota, SC2, and DayZ?

Half-Life...

Just run down the list of every popular RTS and MMO...

What do PC gamers say they miss?

Madden? That game is so good all console players do is bitch about it and pray EA doesn't get exclusives again.

kcxiv 01-17-2014 04:47 AM

As much as I hate madden ****ers still buy it every year regardless. We all get that PC is more powerful. Consol e is just easier/!azier and what most people been doing their whole life. Also remember for certain online games PC games have low online players. I can like I said play mystreet fighter on PC which I have and have to wait 10-15 min for a 3 min match. On Xbox I wait about 1.2 seconds.

In all seriousness, while I'm sure the majority of the hardcore gamers here (and to a certain extent, everywhere) are building PCs from components, the VAST majority of the PC market is "pre-packaged and corporatized".

Buck 01-17-2014 08:32 AM

I do both. PC is a much more customizable experience, and generally that's a good thing. The game catalog is much better too. Keyboard and Mouse is a lot more precise than controller, but when I want to play games like 2K14, I use an xbox controller.

Consoles smoke the PC when it comes to casual gaming, which isn't a knock. If I want to kick back and lay in bed or veg on the couch while playing video games, I'm gonna play my PS3 or 360. And the exclusives are strong enough to justify owning them.

In the end, it's my $, I decide what I'm spending it on.

When you buy a pre-built PC, the OS is not designed to keep you in a perpetual money loop with the manufacturer of the product and its cohorts.

On a console, every single iota of your user experienced is designed to be controlled.

Urc Burry 01-17-2014 09:27 AM

Why is it such a big deal that most people prefer console gaming? We get it, PCs are more powerful. But when I get off work plopping down on the couch with a controller in my hand sounds way more appealing
