Great game. Much respect to the GOAT. What a performance. He never stops impressing. Let’s hope we can get some momentum back in Memphis.

Probably but you can’t have 4 non shooters out there. Just bad coaching

That 4th quarter and OT was pretty damn incredible; James just wouldn't let 'em lose.

Damn shame you've gotta put an asterisk by it.

Y'know, with Clarke being out and Morant being compromised and all...

Because that's what we're doing now, right?

Asterisk or no asterisk, Curry can only wish he could show up in the clutch like that in the playoffs for his team. He'll never know the feeling.

I'm trying to decide if Butler is an overachiever (based on his draft status) or an underachiever (based on what we've seen him do when he gives a shit).

He's one of the stranger careers I've seen in the league.

Why should this guy be having probably the best season of his career at 33 years old? Doesn't it seem like he kinda coasted for like 7 years or so after he left Chicago?

I dunno - I can't figure him out.

DJ's left nut 04-24-2023 11:35 PM

Kenny is making the point that I hope Ham is smart enough to make.

Memphis right now is saying to themselves "We're never losing game 5 - not at home. We've got that. And we know we aren't losing a game 7 at home. So we have one real game left to win..."

LA can't approach game 5 like they approached game 2. Because man, I really don't think you want a team that's so heavily dependent on Anthony Davis going into that game 6 as a true must win game.

I think he's a major overachiever. There was really no rhyme or reason for him to be this good coming out of Marquette or even what he was early in his career with the Bulls. It almost feels like he has these performances through his sheer competitiveness. His bubble playoff performance nearly won a Heat team a championship that had no real business even being at that stage. Just a big game player.

It's mostly his attitude that is the problem. He seems to have a hard time getting along with his teammates unless he is the leader of the team.

ChiefsFanatic 04-25-2023 01:34 AM

I tried again to watch an NBA game, and once again, the ridiculous officiating makes it maddening to watch.

People get bumped or hit hard, and there is no foul, but a guy just watching a layup, playing zero defense, makes a crappy swipe at the ball, doesn't make contact, but it looked like he did, so they call a foul. The lack of consistency, and the questionable timing on when fouls are called, will make me believe the outcome, or at least the spread, is being manipulated, and it won't change until the officials change.

The entire Laker team pouted and cried, and threw their hands up whenever they thought they were fouled. That's LeBron's leadership, the biggest whiner in the NBA.

And dribbling, without traveling or carrying the ball, is like the most fundamental part of the game, but players and officials ignore that rule. Well, except when a ref needs to influence the game, and then they call it.

Imagine if NFL officials suddenly started called passes that bounce once a good catch. And they call a one bounce pass a good catch until the game is on the line, and suddenly they call a one bounce pass incomplete, because the rules say the call can't touch the ground.

It makes no damn sense. I cannot understand how traveling and carrying the ball, which happens on almost every single possession, became acceptable even though the rules say it's a violation.

Kobe was usually on the bench icing his knees in the 4th quarter because his team had already kicked ass most of the time.

Basketball is hard to ref.

College BB which is generally reffed better still has problems. But say when I watch March Madness and I'm watching two teams I don't care about, it's easy to see the problems.

But for the NBA, I started enjoying it again when I only watched a few games during the playoffs and no longer took it seriously and no longer rooted too hard for any specific team.

Players looking for contact on almost every drive make it hard, but much of the reffing is a joke.

People whine about NFL refs, but they really aren't that bad by comparison...

It's someone that went into the game not wanting to like it so they chose not to.

If you watched the games last night saying "BuT tHeY tRaVeLeD!!!" then you're right - the game ain't for you. Go watch Indiana brick open 12 footers and play high school caliber 'hustle to the spot but close out late because you were lost and you're slow' defense. You'll be much happier.

I bet nobody left him uncontested when he did. You mofos bustin a nut over a first round game against a shorthanded and immature Memphis team. But the college game is reffed better!!!!

Fox is absolutely right regarding the shot-making. And it's what I've tried to say for a decade or more to these guys.

College scoring isn't lower because of good defense - the defense is largely awful. It's lower because these guys don't ****ing hit shots. And that's with the benefit of a baby 3 point line.

The pure shot-making is just absolutely atrocious. The number of missed wide-open 10-12 footers just drives me insane.

KC_Connection 04-25-2023 11:44 AM

The college game is definitely not reffed better. College basketball refereeing might be the worst refereeing of any sport I consistently watch. KU had a few games literally stolen from them by the refs last year on the road (as well as a few games they'd never have won at home without the refs) and this is the norm. The difference in home/road in the NCAA is worth nearly 10 points and it's mostly because the refs are really bad at their jobs.

Giannis has been hurt and Butler just played one of the greatest NBA playoff games of all time (which will obviously be difficult to replicate). Milwaukee is still in with a decent shot if Giannis gets back to close to 100%.

Yeah - that's impressive as hell because he was in the middle of everything while Davis and Schroeder were out there throwing the ball around every chance they got.

It was a solid effort for 3 quarters but the 4th quarter and OT were the kind of thing that impacts a legacy if they happen in the finals. That was a remarkable performance.

I can understand the sentiment. I rarely watch college football, and when I do it seems a rather poor imitation of football compared to the NFL.

So I'm not saying college BB is a better overall game, but I think the refs have less outright favoritism for star players versus say bench players than the NBA has.

Although the NBA is perhaps not as bad as it was.

Game 6 of the Kings/Lakers 2002 conference championship was so blatantly ridiculous, I stopped being a NBA fan.

It was way, way worse than anything Tom "Golden Boy" Brady got.

Ooooooh, he hit a shot over big bad Dillon Brooks......Who won't be remembered down the line. DeAngelo Russell saved the day with those 3 straight 3 pointers when down 7. Without those, we lose, PERIODT!!!

Being double teamed and then just shooting anyway makes you a selfish and inefficient player. Its one reason why Kobe had such a low percentage on game winning attempts. Too much hero ball. You play to win the game. Kobe is obv an alltime great, but this was a weakness of his.

ATL comes back and wins to force game 6.

Don’t understand how you can’t be entertained by playoff basketball.

Agreed, except for when the TWolves are playing.

Gary Cooper 04-25-2023 08:06 PM

The Celtics are terrible in close games because Tatum/Brown are poor ballhandlers who make bad decisions. They don't have a true PG besides Brogdon. White or Brogdon should have finished the game instead of Marcus Dumb. You can't have three turnover machines out there closing games in Smart, Brown, and Tatum. They needed someone on the floor who wouldn't panic.

This loss is on Joe Mazzulla who is not a good coach. He makes zero adjustments and is basically just along for the ride.

ABC’s broadcast of the dramatic Game 4 between the Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors recorded the largest audience for a first-round NBA playoff game in 21 years, ESPN announced Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:

The broadcast averaged 7.5 million viewers and peaked with 10.4 million viewers during the 6 p.m. ET quarter-hour, according to Nielsen.
It was the most-watched first-round game since April 28, 2002, when the Los Angeles Lakers and stars Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal faced the Portland Trail Blazers. The 2002 game recorded 8.5 million viewers.

It was 20 years ago and involved admitted criminal conduct.

THAT'S what's got your dander up?

He knocked out a couple Bronco fans and you’re calling that a disaster?

Enjoy watching the Timberwolves in the playoffs again next year!

DJ's left nut 04-26-2023 07:25 PM

19-2 run to end the 3rd?

Just sit James and Davis for the 4th. Maybe it'll at least send a message.

Damn it irritates me that this team thinks it's good enough to coast. EVER. For any length of time.

This ain't the Shaq/Kobe Lakers that could play 35 minutes a game and win. These guys need no less than 45 minutes in the gas. And they don't seem to understand that.

dirk digler 04-26-2023 07:28 PM

Think this is the first blowout of the playoffs at least that I watched

dirk digler 04-26-2023 07:31 PM

Knicks win. Brunson is the real deal. Luka really could have used him instead of headcase Kyrie

The one where LeBron took a charge to win the game in overtime earlier this week?

LeBron was gassed the entire game. Had nothing on his shot or his legs. I wouldn't have even played him in the 4th at all.

Let's hope he still has something left for game 6.

NM. I found it and it will be hanging in my office by the weekend

Kevin Huerter is shooting 3 for 22 in this series from three. Maybe stop playing him?

Fox is gonna be my new favorite player (once LeBron retires in 2030) if he gets this done while injured.

GSW -45 with Curry in the bench. Holy hell that is bad

They fall apart whenever he's not on the floor, yeah, and can barely get him rest. Hopefully that means he'll be gassed by the time the 4th Q starts (not that he's good in late and close games as it is).

Wait! I thought you used implying that Curry had the best teammates and that is the reason he has championships.

That applies more in the 4th quarter, yes. Not the rest of the game. Curry thrives when the pressure is off.

KC_Connection 04-26-2023 08:56 PM

Sabonis needs to see the bench. Whenever he tries to score, he turns the ball over.

You said he was fraudulent yet the Dubs don't seem to do well without him.

Warriors do play team basketball and it seems like Curry doesn't have to be the STAR on the team. Unlike some other player you always mention.
