Not a do over.

You let them resume play from the moment the game stopped. It’s 7-3, with 5 minutes and however many seconds left in the first, down and distance, etc. may the better team win from that moment on. That would be fair. Or fair as it’s going to get. Far better than having the league office just arbitrarily declare a winner or a forfeit.

Week 18

Chiefs, Bengals, Bills win = Chiefs 1, Bills 2, Bengals 3

Week 19
NFC wild card games
AFC playoff teams get bye
Bengals beat Bills = Chiefs 1, Bengals 2, Bills 3?
Bills beat Bengals = Bills 1, Chiefs 2, Bengals 3?

Week 20
NFC playoff teams get bye
All AFC playoff teams play except #1 seed

-So this would take away a week between Champions games and the Super Bowl. Playoffs before the SB would take 4 weeks instead of the regular 3 weeks.

-ALL AFC teams would get a full week off before playoff games except Bill and Bengals.

-NFC teams get a bye week between WC and Divisional games.

-BOTH AFC and NFC #1 seeds, this could change for the AFC after week 19, get two straight bye weeks.

I don't like it and honestly IF the plan on having Bills/Bengals play they should move BOTH Bills/Pats and Bengals/Ravens game to SAT and then IF needed have them play that make up game on Wed. This is a normal short week schedule and then just have the AFC WC games on Sunday so again it would be a normal short week schedule. OR even put AFC WC games on Monday to give 1 extra day.

It is my understanding and maybe some sort of rule but teams are supposed to have a minimum of 6 days off prior to playoffs or between playoff games

We were never going to play after the Bills, so we were always going to be forced to play to win this weekend. Nothing has changed except your feelings.

If the Bengals won then the Ravens would have been locked into the 6 seed and could have done whatever. As it stands, without a decision they have to now play the game as if the Bengals lost, only to maybe find out it was for nothing.

If the NFL said from the outset the game is being played tonight then they could give a forfeit to Bills. As it is they seem to have given them as much rope as they like and now are dealing with all kinds of regrettable scenarios because they didn’t just reschedule the game.

Conspiracy theory? No. Everyone being insanely respectful of whatever the Bills ultimately decide and not wanting to be on record in a way that will bite them in the ass? Absolutely.

If you or anyone else actually thinks any of this alleged “smoke” means the Bills are definitely angling to not play the game, I’ll take bets to the contrary. Lemme know.

The moment the game was suspended, some team was going to feel like they got screwed somehow no matter how it played out. Or at least their fanbase(s) anyway.

I don’t get chiefs fans feeling that way, as the Chiefs are really in the same exact boat they were in before what happened anyway, but whatever.

Chiefs still have to win out, and hope BUF loses a game. SSDD.

I think the Bills play Sunday, but the fact that there's so much smoke about at least some not wanting to makes it pretty obvious that they didn't want to resume the Bengals game this week.

Hence why they should forfeit as opposed to making any drastic changes to the schedule for the rest of the season.

In fairness though to the Bills, reading these quotes from Bengals players especially Burrow I get the sense they didn't want to resume the game this week either.

NE, Miami, Oakland, whatever don’t deserve to be the playoffs anyways. They’re fodder for the sharks.

Only the NFL. They would have all 32 teams in the playoffs if they thought they could make a hefty profit off of it.

This type of stuff happens in the construction trades, manufacturing, mining, farming etc. pretty frequently. According to the AFL-CIO report from April of 2022 there were 4700 workplace deaths in 2021. People have to suck it up and go back to work every day.

Players not wanting to play this week (or at least saying it’s a tough decision) makes as much sense as if you see a meteorite hit a car and decide you can’t drive for a week or longer. It’s understandable you are maybe a little worked up but it’s not understandable to have this mindset like it’s now all of the sudden scarier and you need to change driving habits to the detriment of your work or responsibilities.

That's basically where we're at.

Burrow had even started warming up again.

Of course they don't want to play, but I'm sure they wouldn't have walked out of the stadium if they were told the game would continue, either.

Yes, the Bills dialogue and actions have created this narrative, if Allen and other leaders came out and said "Yes, we are emotional and we know it's going to be tough to play, but it's our job and we want to win a Championship for Damar and the city of Buffalo.", the narrative would be different.

I think it's pretty obvious that most Americans have had life much, much better off than those born before the 70's. I have never seen how bad a true depression, deadly pandemic, or war can be. Each generation gets to experience a life a little less horrible than the one before it.

We have been truly blessed. For the most part the last 30 years have been an oasis in the desert. That said we aren't use to dealing with the worst parts of life like previous generations were. Some of that is a good thing because we also aren't as accepting of those horrors either.

Why would they not play THIS weeks game? Where I used to work if someone died at work, there was no bereavement at all. You kept working. You only got bereavement if immediate family member and only a day for other family.

At this point I'd be surprised if 80% of the league and a similar portion of college players were aware that playing football raises your risk of having a fatal injury before Monday night.

Pretty sure "we" in this case is Bengals/Bills

Kelce: "It's an honor to be able to go out there and play for Damar. Just like i played for Shazier. Just like i played for Alex Smith."

This. If both teams are so broke up about a guy having a heart attack, that they not only want to not play that game but also get the last week of the season off as well. Then they should ****ing be disqualified from the playoffs. I hate that the guy had an issue and almost died. But he’s alive, and we didn’t get any reprieve when Belcher went postal. Rog should sack up and tell them, these are the rules. How ****ing unfair would it be for both teams to have 2 weeks off before the playoffs? Either run your players out there on Sunday, or watch the playoffs from home.

Ah. Though the rest of it doesn’t really make sense anyway. The NFL didn’t say they were going to play Thursday, and at this point I doubt they could, so the rest of it is a nothing-burger.

This is all true but this isn't an intern or a student. I'm not going to keep repeating it but that's the difference here and almost literally no one on this thread gets it and it's becoming a little silly. These guys are literally the best at the world at what they do. If Josh Allen or Burrow or Mahomes says we're not playing Sunday, we're not playing. That's it. Is it fair? Who knows. But it's the reality. It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. No one is telling Josh Allen to find a new profession, and if the Bills did another team would pick him up before the transaction hit the wire.

Billay is clearly the ****ee, not the ****er. He’s 1000% bottom boi! And he doesn’t want them to stop til they’re piercing his spleen.

We don’t know if this is true unless we know how big bill really is? If he’s sporting the standard cp footlong it’s a waste to bottom.

Naah.

If you wanna take the rigged angle, it makes more sense for the NFL to let the Chiefs just have the 1 seed and declare their game a No Contest.

That sets the Bills as the 2 and Bengals as 3.

And if both teams take care of business, both of those teams will be set for a rematch in the divisional round as they'd face each other and the Chiefs would face the lowest seed remaining.

Winner of the Bengals/Bills divisional game will receive an invite to the Arrowhead Invitational.

Bengals also said they weren’t going to play either. Burrow said today he went to the Bills lockerroom before the NFL made a decision and told them that the Bengals did not want to finish the game.

I didn't get that impression at all. He said the day started awkward at the facility.

Jason mentions playing football is what helps him deal with diversity.
