I like the swift action part, but I hated who his best candidate was. I hate that they went for another retread dinosaur head coach, and I expected that because of that we'd end up with another retread dinosaur quarterback. Which we did. Albeit a younger retread dinosaur. I expect the end result of all this will be a repeat/continuation of the last 14 years. The franchise keeps doing the same things over, and over, and over, and over, and over. And it never works.

Ed, it was clear to everyone that I wanted Sanchez, but the Chiefs traded for Cassel instead. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it was basically a wash, except that we would have had a second round pick, which could have been spent on "my" guy at the time, All Pro center Max Unger.

I don't look at it this way. I see a successful NFL head coach and a new GM that was part of great Green Bay teams, both of whom that drafted numerous QB's over the years and developed them. I don't see the Smith trade as an "aversion" on Dorsey or Reid's part.

What I see is a talented team that has massively underachieved for the better part of four years. Instead of "taking a flyer" on a guy they don't like, they've chosen to trade for a QB that can start from Day One and lead this team to the playoffs.

No one knows the compensation. No one knows Reid and Dorsey's strategy in 2013. But history tells us that both men were part of organizations that drafted and developed QB's consistently throughout their careers.

I see no reason why they'd both suddenly stop that practice or change their shared philosophy.

So, you'd have rather had Mike McCoy, Gus Bradley, Bruce Arians, Marc Trestman, Doug Marrone, Rob Chudzinski or Chip Kelly?

I'd rather not have Andy Reid and Alex Smith. Whatever that means.

I didn't want Todd Haley, Scott ***** or Matt Cassel. I'm pretty sure that I was vocal about.

Believe it or not, I have more questions about Reid than Alex Smith. Smith is an above average QB with good coaching.

Andy Reid? I'm not sure what he is anymore. Is he the guy from 2004 or the guy from 2012?

Smith is maybe an average quarterback if we run the ball 600 times this year and he doesn't attempt a pass longer than 5 yards. If we actually try to use him as the lynchpin of a pass-heavy offense we're going to learn very, very quickly just how far below average he really is.

Reid's been the definition of mediocre for years. 7 straight seasons of 6-10 to 10-6. Well, okay I'm being a little flexible there, they did win 11 once. 7 straight sounds better than 6 out of 7.

Either way, it's like a double shit sundae.

Well, at least you're enthusiastic about the upcoming season.

I hate to do it, don't want him to get big headed about it, but after reading thru threads, I have to agree with Dane.


DJ's LN said it the other day, frankly, Alex Smith is probably the best option available for 2013, which judging from what we've heard, at this point thats all they want him to do.

Their obviously going to trade back, get some extra picks and draft the QB they like best in the 2/3 round, to learn/compete this year and next.

They can get picks, get a guy they like in the first, draft a guy like Tyler Bray (who from a skillset is probably better than anyone in this class, but is not coached well and reportedly dumb) groom him and roll from there.

Pioli's problem wasn't bringing in Cassel. Yes, judging from hindsight we know as a QB evaluator he's shit, but if he didn't like Sanchez he shouldn't draft him. No, bringing in Cassel wasn't a problem, it's what they did after that was the problem.

We're bringing in Alex Smith, who is league average to above average with a good team around him and good coaching to stop gap while they find the right guy to lead the franchise. Unlike Pioli, they aren't going to stop looking until either a) They draft and develop the guy to lead it or b) Alex Smith shows that he is that guy.

Yeah, it's not the move we wanted. But like we've been told and refused to listen, you can't force it. Reid and Dorsey haven't been the GM/Coach in charge these last 30 years, let it play out.

I can't remember ever being less interested in a draft, though.
