This works.

the RB have the shortest careers for a reason

You don't play them a ton in preseason to make it even worse.

Charles should sit for the preseason except for some series Week 3. Davis needs the work anyway.

Laz has a definite point. However, I do understand that this is a new offense, and even, perhaps, the first "real" offense Charles has been a part of in his entire NFL career. He does need to learn the playbook and develop continuity with his teammates in the system.

However, as Laz stated, just by the nature of his position, his career is limited unless he's really, really lucky and pulls an Emmitt Smith. Most running backs just don't have the longevity based on their position and what they are required to do on a daily basis in the NFL.

You can see the perceived/understood importance of Charles to this team (at least from a fans perspective) by the reaction to a minor injury that he seems to be recovered from already. Hell, you can see the importance of Charles to Reid and the offense as he got the cart treatment immediately. As such, I wouldn't be too opposed to see Charles standing on the sidelines for the rest of the preseason. Hell, it might even give us a look at the Gray, Davis, Droughn battle for that backup spot.

I think Gray has a lot of potential in this system, but we didn't see much if any of him in that first preseason game.

from what I saw last friday, this WR/TE group is going to take time to get the PB to a point where the team can rely less on Jamaal.

Charles is a veteran guy who can learn this new offense in practice during the no/low contract drills. Imo.

in preseason you use young guys at RB and kick returning etc ... let them absorb the hits to prolong the life of your quality veterans.

I'm sorry I ever thought you'd make an intelligent assumption. in the future, don't look for me to spell out every detail for morons, so not to upset them.

Agreed. If they're worried about it, hold him out. But if he's healthy, he plays.

it's funny how the team treated tony g like a prima donna and he became a prima donna

I think it's more that he was the picture of professionalism and rarely missed playing time during the year.

Why **** with what works?

Not only am i not opposed to that, but thats exactly what should happen.

The other guys need the evaluation and work a lot more than he does, just keep him busy in camp to ward off the rust and he'll be fine.

Ace Gunner 08-14-2013 12:46 PM

we're likely to see Jamaal less and less as the exhibition season weeks go by and it will of course lend the opp to the other RB's. but I'm pretty sure Knile is the guy and if I were to pick, Gray would be the #3.

I was just saying Jamaal needs to play every pre season game with the ones. this is not just for Jamaal -- the blockers need to get in line with how Jamaal runs through holes etc.

that goal line TD last week was real important imo. it was important to Jon A/Fish and the OL as a whole -- instills confidence going into the season and it gives the OL a sense of timing & direction.

Easy 6 08-14-2013 12:49 PM

Thats a fair point about getting them all in tune with one another buzz, but they atleast should progressively limit his reps as you say.

We need to get these other jokers in lockstep, too.
