I see BL's "They aren't going anywhere so why is everybody even bothering complaining!" argument went over well.

If only we could get everyone in DC to feel the same way about Obama, then we'd really be making some progress.

One never won us shit and the other never will.

That's where the similarities begin and end.

No is saying the Chiefs are set at WR or OL. In fact, everyone acknowledges that the guard and tackle play on this team was horrendous and that the WRs leave something to be desired, but if you actually look at a lot of other teams, the Chiefs are no worse than middle of the pack in skill position players. Charles is a top three back, Kelce is a top 10 TE, DAT is the false bill of goods McCluster was supposed to be and a Pro Bowl specialist in year one, and Dwayne Bowe is, at worst, a top level WR #2. And for Bowe supposedly needing so many boots in the ass he sure seemed to do fine his first two years here.

It's also not naked speculation to suggest that Smith needs better and likely won't succeed even with better. He had a defense with two prime HOFers , three additional Pro Bowlers (including record setting performances by age from a pass rusher), the best OL in football, the most athletically gifted TE in the history of football, a top 5-7 back, and he couldn't beat a 9-7 Giants team at home that scored 17 points in regulation.

You can't horde talent on teams like the 80s and you can't hide your quarterback. So yeah, people are going to want something different at quarterback because...gasp... you need something better at QB to win in the NFL.

Marty Schottenheimer's career is not aspirational.

I'm not defending Alex Smith but that same Giants team won the Super Bowl for crying out loud ... and Alex played awful in the NFCCG. This board has totally underrated Alex Smith, though. He's a middle of the pack QB who will excel in games where he has a lead and be awful in games where his offense becomes one dimensional. That's it. And if you really think Stafford or Flacco would have had a better WAR on this Chiefs team, I strongly disagree.

Hammock Parties 12-30-2014 11:10 PM

Fun fact about that Giants team:

THE OL WAS DREADFUL

Excuses are for game managers.

Hootie 12-30-2014 11:12 PM

the problem with talking Chiefs on this board now is you have guys like Clay that troll every thread with every manipulated stat to show why Alex Smith SUCKS (instead of realistic criticism) just like what he did when he bombarded Sean Smith before he became a Chief ... and then you have a band of fragile minded reeruns like Sweet Daddy Hate who pick up on this and then start spewing off like it's Gospel ... they are the same ****ing reeruns that ruined the board for an entire offseason with Geno Smith and "choco penii" garbage. It's literally ruined Chiefs talk on this board.

I was on this board for all 17 weeks, watched all 16 games, and participated in almost no game threads, no game chats, and hardly any pre or after game chatter ... because it's just garbage now.

Clay has literally ruined it for everyone. It's not all his fault, it's more of the idiotic leeches that follow him around ... but it's terrible.

Thank God for the Royals and the fact the band of reeruns don't understand baseball enough to ruin that for me, too.

Not going to comment on the quality of play, but he's not a dork. Cool dude. Seriously.

I love him on the broadcasts, glad he's representing the Chiefs well. Glad he made his home in KC, probably my 3rd favorite Chief. Pretty cool his BIL still posts on CP, too.

Your kids already have a better arm than you, or ... ?

Well, the infusion of Niner/AS/Dual fans didn't help the dynamic at all.

Alex Smith is polarizing enough that the white/black/with us/against us type of argument is going to continue to be prevalent; with a crowd of Alex bashers, a crowd full of Alexcuses and a few neutral folks. Neither side is willing to admit they may be wrong and neutral opinions aren't interesting anyhow.

Clay spews off a lot of shit. Some of it is true. Some of it is not. When his claims are baseless, a la Sean Smith, you aren't going to find anyone continuing to indulge his arguments. As long as Alex provides a proper platform for bashing, he's going to get hammered.

You can point to Clay and his perceived group of followers as the downfall of CP; but if we were balling out with a stud QB we'd mostly have a bunch of happy campers. Since, you know, we haven't had a QB actually worth being proud of since I can't remember when.

Or maybe we wouldn't. We might have a polarizing RB/HC/Whatever to rally for/against at that point.

Hootie 12-30-2014 11:39 PM

well all I know is ...

Reid/Dorsey somehow have rattled off 20 wins in 2 years including year 2 where we played 11 teams who ended with winning records and did it all with Alex Smith, the worst QB in the NFL.

So at least we have a good coach and a good GM, apparently.

Did I mention they took over the year after we blacked out the stadium and spent a year flying banners?

Maybe everyone should STFU

Pablo 12-30-2014 11:45 PM

Yes, and after they had the 1.1 pick, handpicked their perfect system QB for two second round picks and gave him a hefty contract, and won twenty games - we have what to show for it?

Two major second half collapses and an all-time embarrassment of a playoff loss? Am I missing something?

Glass half full/empty. Look at it how you like. Maybe you're very happy with the organization and what they've done for us fans so far. Some people aren't.

Hammock Parties 12-30-2014 11:48 PM

9 of those wins are a mirage, though

and now that we're back to losing to the Raiders and Titans and Giancarlo Stanton...the jig is up.

Alex Smith...IS IN GRAVE DANGER!

I don't think we've ever even said boo to each other over the years but we agree about this.

Hootie 12-30-2014 11:50 PM

...I hate Eric Fisher as much as the next guy.

I'm also really ****ing sorry the top 10 of the draft we got #1 was this:

Fisher
Joeckel
Dion Jordan
Lane Johnson
Ezekiel Ansah
Barkevious Mingo
Jonathan Cooper
Tavon Austin
Dee Milliner
Chance Warmack

and I'm tired of people realizing the going rate for non-rookie contract starting QB's is right in line with what Alex Smith was paid, and it's a contract that will not hamstring the organization one ****ing bit

Man.

Get the **** over it people.

Whoa is us ... we didn't get to draft 1st in 2012. We're Chiefs fans, of course 2013 happened to us. What did you ****ing expect?

I mean, 2013 might go down as the worst 1st round in the history of the NFL draft.

This. The team collapses and can't succeed from more than two possessions behind in a game without lucky breaks.

We've seen the best that can happen with Dorsey and Reid running the show with Smith under center: last season.

Hootie 12-30-2014 11:51 PM

Tavon Austin went 8th

we got DAT in the 4th

who would you honestly rather have? I think I'd take DAT, LMAO
