I honestly don't get the Dodgers' offseason at all. If they acquire Jose Fernandez with all the chips they've acquired, that would make sense. But to this point, and granted there are still a lot of people out there, I'm not seeing it. Oh well.

Royals assistant GM J.J. Piccolo said in an appearance on MLB Network Radio today that right-hander Kyle Zimmer is someone the team envisions helping in its rotation, possibly as soon as early 2016. Zimmer, a former No. 4 overall draft pick, has seen his career slowed by shoulder problems but has put together an impressive resumé when healthy. The 24-year-old worked mostly in relief last year while returning from injury but worked to a 2.39 ERA in 64 innings between Class-A and Double-A, and he has a lifetime 3.28 ERA with 10.8 K/9 against 2.8 BB/9 in 216 2/3 minor league innings. Durability will be a question for Zimmer until he proves he can handle a full season’s worth of innings, but his upside is substantial.

So Scott Kazmir - $5M signing bonus + $11M for $16M total in 2016 and then $16M for 2017 and $16M for 2018.

Yovani Gallardo and Ian Kennedy are supposed to be next up for the Royals, but that will probably take a 4 year at over $50M.

It would be nice if KC could count on some of their young pitchers like Zimmer helping them.

Who cares where these guys go? Last year we were discussing "missing out" on guys like Melky, Brett Anderson, Tori Hunter, Adam LaRoche, Michael Morse, losing Shields etc. and we ended up with Kendrys Morales, Volquez, Madson, Young.


So it's hard to even care about any of these guys. Our core will determine where we end up anyway, FA will only fill spots around the edge

VERY classy. And he's right he was very much a part of this team in 15, and definitely a huge leader in the club house in the 14 playoffs which helped tons this year

I'm a big fan of Guthrie. He's obviously a huge leader in the clubhouse. Even when he wasn't on the postseason roster, he still led all off the postseason celebrations. He's not too full of himself and has fun.

Most importantly, he ate a lot of innings, kept the bullpen fresh and played a big role in getting this organization over the hump. People forget he was lights out in Sept 2014 and was a huge part of the stretch run to clinch a playoff spot for the first time. Then he outdueled Chen in the ALCS to put us up big, and then pitched great in game 3 to put us up 2-1 on the Giants. He ran out of gas this year but he should feel like he was a part of this team's success.

Yeah, he produced some damned gutty performances - hence JGuts - that 2014 doesn't happen without. If 2015 doesn't happen, I'm not sure if we enter 2015 with the focus and drive to make the championship happen.

He didn't have it this year, but it doesn't mean he wasn't important.

Guts deserves criticism. He mad $12.2M this year to be the single worst pitcher among the top 110 guys by innings. He was a joke and a badly overpaid one. He seems like a nice guy but professionally he was atrocious.

Meh. Did he have a bad year? Yes. Is his career over? Probably. Should the Royals bring him back in 2016? Hell no.

But he did give the Royals a few very good years, and he always conducted himself like a pro. I save the hate for guys who deserve it. He doesn't.

He also went 7-2 with a 3.06 ERA over the final two months of 2014 to help lead their charge up the standings. Pitched 7 scoreless innings to win the game that clinched the Royals first playoff berth in 29 years. Outdueled Chen in game 3 of the ALCS to put a strangehold on the ALCS, and outdueled Tim Hudson to win game 3 of the World Series and put the Royals up 2-1. That's pretty tough, considering game 3 is usually the pivotal game.

He stunk this year but he should really be remembered positively. He was a huge part of turning this organization around. I know you're a robot about this stuff but come on now.

Guts prevented a sweep vs. the Tigers late in 2014 that probably saved our season. I consider that his most important game as a Royal.

He threw a huge 6 innings in a 1-0 shutout over Sonny Gray and OAK in OAK in August 2014. The game won by a Raul Ibanez HR in the top of the 5th.

Oakland looked unstoppable at the time and that series seemed to turn around our season (and theirs, coincidentally).

JGuts was a great team guy and was huge in the 2014 post season. Also, very class response by him.

Hadn't seen that bit of news. Apparently MLB is going to offer an MLB TV package next year where you can just select a single team and get all of their games.

Haven't said how much it'll cost though. The NHL does this... and it's really not that much cheaper. It's like $130 for the whole package, $100 if you want buy a single team package.
