This is completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with what was (or wasn't) offered.

Kazmir to the Dodgers.

3 years/$48 million with opt out after a year? Weird.

Chen is still out there.

CaliforniaChief 12-30-2015 02:45 PM

I honestly don't get the Dodgers' offseason at all. If they acquire Jose Fernandez with all the chips they've acquired, that would make sense. But to this point, and granted there are still a lot of people out there, I'm not seeing it. Oh well.

Anyong Bluth 12-30-2015 03:03 PM

Well cross Kazmir off the list, then.

Sure-Oz 12-30-2015 03:03 PM

Who's left Chen, Gallardo?

Fansy the Famous Bard 12-30-2015 03:05 PM

Dang, would have liked Kazmir. Although, that price is about the top end I'd have given for him (from a Royals perspective)

Wilson8 12-30-2015 04:13 PM

Royals assistant GM J.J. Piccolo said in an appearance on MLB Network Radio today that right-hander Kyle Zimmer is someone the team envisions helping in its rotation, possibly as soon as early 2016. Zimmer, a former No. 4 overall draft pick, has seen his career slowed by shoulder problems but has put together an impressive resumé when healthy. The 24-year-old worked mostly in relief last year while returning from injury but worked to a 2.39 ERA in 64 innings between Class-A and Double-A, and he has a lifetime 3.28 ERA with 10.8 K/9 against 2.8 BB/9 in 216 2/3 minor league innings. Durability will be a question for Zimmer until he proves he can handle a full season’s worth of innings, but his upside is substantial.

I think Yovani Gallardo is our Man.

Probably 4/$52MM??

Wilson8 12-30-2015 04:56 PM

So Scott Kazmir - $5M signing bonus + $11M for $16M total in 2016 and then $16M for 2017 and $16M for 2018.

Yovani Gallardo and Ian Kennedy are supposed to be next up for the Royals, but that will probably take a 4 year at over $50M.

It would be nice if KC could count on some of their young pitchers like Zimmer helping them.

Who cares where these guys go? Last year we were discussing "missing out" on guys like Melky, Brett Anderson, Tori Hunter, Adam LaRoche, Michael Morse, losing Shields etc. and we ended up with Kendrys Morales, Volquez, Madson, Young.

So it's hard to even care about any of these guys. Our core will determine where we end up anyway, FA will only fill spots around the edge

VERY classy. And he's right he was very much a part of this team in 15, and definitely a huge leader in the club house in the 14 playoffs which helped tons this year

tk13 12-31-2015 01:04 PM

I'm a big fan of Guthrie. He's obviously a huge leader in the clubhouse. Even when he wasn't on the postseason roster, he still led all off the postseason celebrations. He's not too full of himself and has fun.

Most importantly, he ate a lot of innings, kept the bullpen fresh and played a big role in getting this organization over the hump. People forget he was lights out in Sept 2014 and was a huge part of the stretch run to clinch a playoff spot for the first time. Then he outdueled Chen in the ALCS to put us up big, and then pitched great in game 3 to put us up 2-1 on the Giants. He ran out of gas this year but he should feel like he was a part of this team's success.

Yeah, he produced some damned gutty performances - hence JGuts - that 2014 doesn't happen without. If 2015 doesn't happen, I'm not sure if we enter 2015 with the focus and drive to make the championship happen.

He didn't have it this year, but it doesn't mean he wasn't important.

Meh. Did he have a bad year? Yes. Is his career over? Probably. Should the Royals bring him back in 2016? Hell no.

But he did give the Royals a few very good years, and he always conducted himself like a pro. I save the hate for guys who deserve it. He doesn't.

He also went 7-2 with a 3.06 ERA over the final two months of 2014 to help lead their charge up the standings. Pitched 7 scoreless innings to win the game that clinched the Royals first playoff berth in 29 years. Outdueled Chen in game 3 of the ALCS to put a strangehold on the ALCS, and outdueled Tim Hudson to win game 3 of the World Series and put the Royals up 2-1. That's pretty tough, considering game 3 is usually the pivotal game.

He stunk this year but he should really be remembered positively. He was a huge part of turning this organization around. I know you're a robot about this stuff but come on now.

suzzer99 12-31-2015 02:38 PM

Dennis Leonard
Bret Saberhagen
Danny Jackson
Jeremy Guthrie
Yordano Ventura
Johnny Cueto

With respect to Kisla's column (which I'm gonna guess nobody actually saw), it's fine to criticize Guthrie. That's what columnists do - honest appraisals. I highly doubt he had some axe to grind vs Guts, just like I don't.

Guts made 27M here and was worth 4.9M. That's not a good contribution. We could've applied that $ elsewhere and been no worse.

Agreed with with aspect of this post. He looked like he had never played baseball before. Almost costed us in his debut against the Twins with the inability to accomplish the ever-so-hard task of running 90 feet and then he struck out with the tying-run on 3rd to lose the game and the season series against the Cards (middle finger for all of you STL assholes). **** you Dusty.

But great season, yes.

EDIT: upon further review Dusty was the first out with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs by way of strikeout. My bad.

Hadn't seen that bit of news. Apparently MLB is going to offer an MLB TV package next year where you can just select a single team and get all of their games.

Haven't said how much it'll cost though. The NHL does this... and it's really not that much cheaper. It's like $130 for the whole package, $100 if you want buy a single team package.

No, offers have been made - just not accepted. Nobody is "waiting"

What's happening is teams don't value these guys as much as once believed. Teams don't wait for markets to be set - look at Price + Greinke, signed instantly. The corner OF just aren't worth what they want.

I stand corrected.

Yeah everyone thought the OF guys were going to fly off the board when Heyward was signed, but that hasn't happened.

C3HIEF3S 01-01-2016 03:55 PM

Oh shit I completely forgot about Heyward.
Dear lord I am out of baseball at the moment. I'm torn between wanting baseball back and salvaging the feeling the mother****ing Kansas City Royals are the current World Champs.

I've been saying this most off the off season. A lot of guys arent going to get what was being projected. Teams are kind of waiting for other teams to piss away their money then go bargain shopping on similar players.

@BNightengale: The Chicago #WhiteSox want to sign free agent OF Alex Gordon or Yoenis Cespedes, but only if they're willing to take 3-year deal or less.

That's a plant for negotiating purposes.

If that's who the Royals are competing against then I feel better about getting Gordo back. It will take at least 4 years to sign him I'd think.

It's already been reported the white sox want 4-5 years for one of the two. Ken Rosenthal said he expects us to land Cespedes or Gordon. I'll take my chances.

I think:
White Sox get Cespedes. He's friends with Abreu and that's going to help.
Royals get Gordon back. He's using other teams to get close to the money he wants.

Anyone who wants to dog on Jeremy and his contributions to the team over the past 3 years, obviously didn't watch much Royals beisbol. As for a Denver writer going after him now- strikes me as odd , and he probably should STFU, respectfully, of course.

@Buster_ESPN: Sources: The Royals still pursuing possible additions for their rotation for 2016.

He actually managed to waste every single one of the allotted 140 characters.
