Ranked No. 26 in the ESPN 100, Dotson is one of the best point guards in the country. He averaged 18.8 points and 2.6 steals for Team Charlotte on the Under Armour Association circuit. Dotson is very quick with the ball in his hands and loves to attack the rim off the dribble.

Dotson is the third top-35 prospect to commit to Kansas in the 2018 class, following power forward Silvio De Sousa (No. 28) and center David McCormack (No. 33). Bill Self also has high-level transfers Charlie Moore (California) and Dedric and K.J. Lawson (Memphis) sitting out the 2017-18 season.

Dotson is a true 1 and Vick is more of a 2. I think Moore will start over Dotson initially. Depending on how Dotson meshes with the system, he may take the starting role.

Self rolled with Tharpe over Frank Mason at the point due to Tharpe’s experience in the system. Mason was obviously far more talented.

Moore has a full year of practicing in the system. I would be shocked if he wasn’t starting at the point in the first game of the season.

It's rare, but it's happened.

Outside of Grimes, and Langford if he comes, I don't think the incoming recruits have enough raw talent.

My other point was that, as far as I know (and I could be wrong), Vick and Dotson play completely different positions.

You’re pretty much spot on. Self didn’t even start Embiid over Tarik Black initially. Embiid is a generational talent and couldn’t even be a day 1 starter over a graduate transfer.

Yikes, I’d forgot about Black.

By all means, show me where you said anything about proving they were a better player, at KU, before we got into this discussion.

Fact is, you were basing it all on some high school ranking that means little to nothing. And that's not how Self gives playing time out.

Self gives zero shits about high school rankings. Frank Mason and Devonte Graham have further shown Self (and all of us for that matter) how wrong those can be.

l just quoted myself where l did. This is a pointless conversation. I’m not interested in “winning” this conversation.

Yes, you said that after the discussion started.

I don't know that Vick or Newman return. If either does he starts. If both, Grimes to bench.

Dont count out Charlie Moore. Dont know when the last time Self started a freshman PG

He hasn’t. The order has gone:

Russell Robinson (senior ‘08)
Sherron Collins (junior ‘09)
Sherron Collins (senior ‘10)
Tyshawn Taylor (junior ‘11)
Tyshawn Taylor (senior ‘12)
Elijah Johnson (senior ‘13)
Naadir Tharpe (junior ‘14)
Frank Mason (sophomore ‘15)
Frank Mason (junior ‘16)
Frank Mason (senior ‘17)

Kinda tough to say because Self has been a "2 combo guard" guy, and Tyshawn started as a freshman (alongside Sherron)

That’s true. And Mario started alongside Russell in ‘06.

If either Vick or Newman come back, they’ll start at the 2. The lead guard IMO will be Moore at first though. That could change by the end of the non con.

Another likely scenario is that both Vick and Newman leave with Langford signing with Indiana. In that case, I would guess that we either go big and start KJ Lawson or go small and start Dotson alongside Moore. Both have their benefits.

That's pretty good stuff. When KCC was all concerned about Duke's zone I said I was not too worried. Self's teams know how to attack a zone. This just proves that. Of course, the execution could have been much better on several of those examples.

Langford looks to be a Helluva player, definitely a one and done. But yeah, I agree with you. Would love to see Newman stay another year.

Good stuff. I was especially impressed by McCormack. Seems to be a very mature young man.
