Are they getting equivalent value back, though?
I mean, if a team like the Dodgers wants to send someone like Bobby Miller for Garcia in a direct exchange, maybe something like that would work.
Otherwise, a guy who plays GG-caliber defense at 3B and is a productive offensive player who can run and hit at the top of a lineup is probably a 3-4 win type of guy. Sure, he might hit for less power than you’d typically see at 3B, but KC is also going to have more power at SS than average.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Witt’s defense has improved so much with strong defenders on both sides of him in Garcia and Massey, either.
Long-term, the Royals best outcome is if Garcia continues to be a viable hitter and so does Massey. Even if Pratto doesn’t stick at 1B, an IF of Garcia, Witt, Massey, and Pasquantino offers something to dream on.
