Herm hasn't been able to win anywhere.

It is in his contract that if he got a job he would have to pay the difference for the next 3 years IIRC. I believe he owes Shanahan $7 million a year.

He still owes Shanahan the full amount even if Shanahan doesn't work - and is going to pay it without any problem, as far I've heard.

Shanahan has no reason whatsoever to take less from the Chiefs. That $7 million is the market price for Mike Shanahan.

This wouldn't hamstring Bowlen in any way as far as football operations go - there's no salary cap for coaches.

It would just be taking money out of Bowlen's pocket and putting into Hunt's.

It is beneficial to Bowlen that Shanahan get a job so instead of paying him $7 million dollars the next 3 years he will only have to pay a portion of that.

He'd only be coaching a mere eight games a year in KC.

And the thought of that happening is precisely why, anti-bronco sentiment aside, Chiefs should consider The Rat coming to KC.

Job 1 in the NFL: win your division.

Imagine bringing in a coach who absolutely knows the strategy of teams that you will play over a third of your yearly games against.

Some talk has been mentioned of what Pioli will do with 1) Herm; 2) Gonzo; 3) LJ. Shanny takes care of everything. He replaces Herm. His best years in Denver were when he was making Sharpe a HOF tight end. And don't you think LJ could get excited about the cutback blocking schemes perfected in Denver? (LJ just needs to quit spitting drinks in women's faces.)

I think Shanny wants a job. Bowlen already owes him a boatload for the rest of his Bronco contract, unless The Rat would take something less for just being a field manager.

And yes, Shanny has loved sticking it to his former boss Al Davis. Wouldn't he like to double his pleasure? Sure Bowlen is his friend. But Shanny is a nasty competitor and would like to bring it to Mile High City every year. You bet he would.

Get real.

You think taking the job in KC isn't burning that friendship up by itself? Pat already said KC was the only team he didn't want to see Mike go to. Also, how friendly would you be with the guy that just fired you? Mike has a tendency to like to stick it to his former employers and KC is a perfect opportunity to do it 25% of the time. He won't get that percentage anywhere else.

I really don't think this is happening.

He only owes that money if Shanahan doesn't get a job. If he gets a job he pays the remaining portion.

Also the $7 million dollars market value was Mike being HC and GM. Here he would only be HC

That $7 million is market price for being the GM AND coach. He wount be getting the GM role, so his price will go down considerably.

I think it's happening too. I don't care if Mort is coming off of his report, I've thought for a while that Mike is obsessing over this job.

You have to know that his treatment by Al Davis was night and day different than by Bowlen, don't you? Davis badmouthed him, lied about him, fired him without a fair chance, and never paid what he was owed. Bowlen - not so much.
