Thanks.

I think he'll be able to cover Gronk. Gronk has been a good blocker for us, but his explosiveness and speed has dropped a lot. I wish Gronk wasn't cooked, but its pretty obvious he is.

Gronk can block at least, like I said.

I'm excited, but nervous too. I want to think we have a chance, but Mahomes is the real deal and KC is explosive.

I know!

They need to add the "alerts" tag. Makes it easier to follow a thread.

Lots to Chief trolls are showing up on the home board.

Not nervous at all. Check out what Evan Lazar said. I agree with him. Hes spot on.

I'll take a look soon. The afccg can't come soon enough. It becomes like a holiday for me because of how excited I get. Almost feels like the night before Christmas when you're 11.

I have a sneaky suspicion that it won't be your last either under Mahomes. You have a proven coach who can make the playoffs and an eletric playmaker in Mahomes. You guys should be feared for years to come!

Think Hunt's stats would embellish Mahomes' passer rating more, though I've no idea how passer rating is tabulated.

I dont either, but I do think the fact that we will have mostly die-hards there will make it up to a pretty good extent. If we hit Brady early and often though I could see it being insanely loud.

Does this stat mean anything to the Chiefs Xs and Os fans out there?

I don't think it does but curious.

Quote:

26% of Mahomes' pass attempts this season were at or behind the line of scrimmage. That's the 3rd highest in the NFL, behind only Mariota and Rosen.

(Brady, by the way, was at 22%, 17th in NFL)

You made me think about this. Let me give it a shot.

For me, I'm kinda older and was a fan through the dark days of the early and then late 80s and early 90s. I cherish this. This will end someday. It always does.

With that said keep in mind we've lost 5 Super Bowls and 4 AFCCGs. Its not like we are the 60s Celtics and win every year. When you lose it still stings. When you win its great. Like the Malcolm INT or the 28-3 comeback. I lost my mind. Giddy for a week.

With that said we have younger fans like my teenagers who expect AFCCGs and Super Bowls. I grew up with Bill Buckner, Bucky Dent, Tony Eason and Glen Wesley.

I hope you guys win it (if we don't)and experience that "breaking though" moment. Saints fans know it.

Rams fans can suck it.

There is nothing wrong with dink n dunk.

Take measured risks with the football.

You guys won a bunch of games with Alex Smith.

Mahomes is the playmaker Smith wasn't.

There's nothing wrong with dink and dunk if you can offer at least the ILLUSION of being able to take the top off of a defense once in a while.

When your QB repeatedly refuses to throw the ball to wide open receivers down the field, it makes your offense one-dimensional, even if you pass the ball 50 times a game.

What does "top off a defense" mean to you? If you have shitty deep threats, chucking it a couple times is a waste.

You aren't following.

Based on % of all attempts, Mahomes was #3 in NFL in throwing attempts to receivers behind the LoS.

To your point, Mahomes has 2x as many completions and attempts than Tom for throws 21 yards or more.

My question is why so many throws behind the LoS?

Because that's the offense we run.

Mahomes big arm and ability to throw deep open up all the short stuff in the traditional WCO and spread attacks.

Mahomes didn't complete a single pass over 20 air yards last week and we still scored 31 points.

Because teams are scared shitless of his ability to go deep.

See: Alex Smith - king of checkdowns - ignoring Tyreek Hill streaking uncovered down the field in the 2016 playoffs against the Steelers. No one took Smith’s throwing downfield seriously prior to that game and consistently missing those opportunities is why. Smith missed them 85pct of the time whereas Mahomes is looking for that opportunity a similar proportion of plays.

I’m so ready to see how our corners handle the press coverage Sunday. You just know it’s coming too.

Blows my mind that LAC tried to play off all the time when that has gotten so many teams beaten by NE over the years. Pittsburgh finally went away from it in the game they played this year and they got the monkey off their backs.

We HAVE to disrupt the timing of their routes.

Even a guy like Darius Heyward-Bey had to be accounted for, it only takes one catch to lose a game.

But in the Chiefs case, it's even worse. We had guys like Tyreek Hill running wide open 25-30 yards downfield and Alex wouldn't even look at him.

On Sunday, the Patriots have to be aware of where Tyreek Hill is AT ALL TIMES. If Alex Smith were the QB, they could actually relax a little because they would never really have to worry about getting beat deep.

Rivers is totally one of those guys that you hear his story and you think "great guy" and then you watch him yell at refs and his offensive linemen and spit and throw tantrums and you literally think he's the biggest jerk in the NFL. That's why around here we call him Philip "Cry Me A" Rivers.

As for the defense, I don't get it either. It's one thing to play zone like that when man is needed. But they have TWO all pros in King and James on the backend and STILL played all zone. Just mystifying.

Check this, you know how you guys feel about Kareem Hunt, right? He had more than 20 carries like twice this season. The average in this offense since Reid has been here for the #1 back is like 17 carries a game.

Smith missed them 85pct of the time whereas Mahomes is looking for that opportunity a similar proportion of plays.

Thats the thing...Smith didn't have the credibility to hurt you deep. I think Hill is a better route runner now than when Smith was here but thats besides the point.

Mahomes does have the cred and he's still throwing a shitton behind the LoS.

Reid always likes throwing to his RBs so that is my conclusion- WCO

Yep and Reid uses the screen game as an extension of his running attack in some ways... and this year the screens have been far more effective than ever before to my eye.

Hill.....ugh

Based on % of all attempts, Mahomes was #3 in NFL in throwing attempts to receivers behind the LoS.

To your point, Mahomes has 2x as many completions and attempts than Tom for throws 21 yards or more.

My question is why so many throws behind the LoS?

Ah, I now see what you're getting at. Trust me. These weren't checkdowns. This wasn't even WCO stuff. This was Andy Reid shovel passes and tosses done in acrobatic fashion that all counted as forward passes. They padded some of Mahomes passing stats as well this season and definitely contributed to his 50 TDs.

As dangerous as Hill is down the field, I expect Andy to try to use him on those orbit motion sweeps/jet sweeps plenty to counter the Pats congested cover 0 looks. At that point, if he can just get a couple of decent blocks or make a guy miss, he can go for 25+ in a hurry.

Yeah, I bet we see Watkins in the running game too.

He was like that in Philly too.

Im ok financially but thats an interesting proposition.

Get herpes from Bill Belichick = $150m.

As I long I get to ask him 10 "WTF were you thinking" questions I'd do it.

;-)

It's the horizontal stretch concept of the WCO. A lot of screens, passes to backs in the flats force the defense to cover sideline to sideline. Then with Tyreek, Watkins, and even Kelce down the seams you stress them vertically.

Rain Man 01-18-2019 08:49 PM

I'm in a hotel bar in Seattle, and the bartenders are asking people who they're rooting for. Right now 100 percent of people are rooting for the Chiefs. It's about 70/30 in the less important conference for New Orleans. But it's 100 percent for the Chiefs, with people generally saying that they like watching the Chiefs and don't like the Patriots.

You guys play tough there. I remember that 2014 game saying: "****, we are being punched in the mouth.......". That was with Alex Smith too.

If we win the coin toss, I hope we elect to recieve. I'd like to score quick to send a message. Cannot go three and out and let Mahomes score because we aren't winning from behind like The Jaguars game and Falcons SB 51.

Gee, I wonder why they don't like the Patriots ;-).

We ripped their hearts out and flushed it down the can.

If we win, we'll defer. I don't think you want the ball first. The fans will be so epically charged at that very moment in a way Brady has never seen before (truly, he's never faced fans so starved of a win in this game). Moreover, I always think the away team wants the ball to start the second half when the stadium is half empty and it's much quieter.

Belichik knows we want to defer. And maybe he'll play into it as an intimidation tactic.

Hammock Parties 01-18-2019 08:58 PM

That formula has worked so far for the Chiefs 90% of the time.

They won't go away from it.

I’m so bad at guessing scores but just for the hell of it I’d say KC 35- NE 27 with a late TD that makes it look closer than it is.

Btw, you’re pretty cool for a Pats fan!

I hope they do take the ball.

I always want to defer. Each and every time, without exception.
