Kansas City is the "it" team in the NFL right now, Reid is one of the most respected coaches, and we have a 23-year-old generational talent at QB. That has to count for something when you're deciding on making a jump like this.

My thought too. Another thought is that I think the only thing holding house back from a DC position is nfl teams not thinking he's experienced enough. Even if spags isn't great id bet house becomes a top candidate for an nfl DC position because he now has nfl experience. It really wouldn't surprise me if house is either in line to be DC for us or more realistically a top DC candidate leaguewide in 1 or 2 years. I'm perfectly fine with either scenario.

I'll fall over dead when an NFL team hires a Chiefs defensive coach to be a DC or HC. That hasn't happened in like 30 years.....

Marty's tree. Cowher, Herm and Dungy.

Herm would've been the last 'first' hire in 2001 for the Jets. Cowher in 93 would be the last guy taken directly from our staff to be a HC but I don't expect that'll happen with House or Daly either. They could use this as a springboard to a DC gig somewhere but if the team is successful, Spags is gonna stick around. The only way he doesn't is if the defense is genuinely excellent like the Bears.

Merely getting the D to decent isn't gonna be enough to get a 60 year old DC a head coaching gig unless he knows Sean McVay.

Matt House will be heading to the Chiefs, after all

The on-again, off-again pursuit of Matt House by the Chiefs is back on. For now.

Via multiple reports, the UK defensive coordinator will be leaving Lexington to become Kansas City’s linebackers coach. The report comes after House was slated to leave, and then after Kentucky decided not to follow through on a buyout arrangement.

House, who spent 2008 through 2011 as an assistant with the Panthers and Rams, has seen most of his career coaching at the college level. He’s been at Kentucky for three seasons. Before that, he worked for Florida International for one season and Pitt for three.

The move will reunite him with new Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo; they previously spent time together when Spagnuolo served as head coach of the Rams.

You're such a sore loser. LMAO

A deal couldn’t be reach, so we’re bringing Sutton back because everyone deserves a second chance.

UPDATE: The Kansas City Chiefs are hiring Kentucky DC Matt House as their linebackers coach, per The Kansas City Star.
House initially agreed to take the job early last week before deciding to return to Kentucky over the weekend.
This was because Kentucky was unwilling to negotiate a buyout agreement with House.

However, after further conversations with Kentucky, House was able to workout a buyout that will allow him to join the Chiefs’ staff after all.

I know you're being obtuse so I'm going to say this more for the benefit of everyone else present:

There is no way in hell Clark Hunt would have approved the continuation of this move prior to getting his ass whipped in an embarrassing fashion, at home, by the New England Patriots.

Old Clark would have said, "eh, move on". You KNOW this is true. EVERYONE knows this is true. He just wasn't that aggressive and you know it. And you can't compare this to picking up Reid or Peeholi because those are HIGH LEVEL hires where he was directly involved in the entire process. This was a Linebackers coach position. But his guys( Reid/Spags )selected Matt House as their #1 choice for the job, and by extension he became Clark's #1 guy for the job. And Clark wasn't going to be denied his #1 guy by money, some jank-ass college, or anything else.

You can sit there and say "it was just a buyout" and technically you would be correct. But this isn't about technicalities exclusively. It's also about absolutely REFUSING to be denied what you are seeking in the quest to win a championship and beyond. Even a simple positional coach.

And it's about to spill over into player personnel, which I know you're just itching to argue about but don't worry; it's coming.

ROFL

you're dumb

UK fans on Reddit are claiming that the first time fell through because the Chiefs didn't want to pay the full buyout. Then the Chiefs went public with the "UK won't let House leave" line and it forced UK to negotiate a lower buyout to avoid looking bad. I haven't seen an actual source for this and it sounds like CYA. Hard to believe Clark would have an issue with $150K buyout if it was a guy they really wanted.

Actually that sounds like EXACTLY what happened.

he has a 150k per year left buyout.

the reports were they were trying to NEGOTIATE a buyout which wouldnt need done if they were will to pay 150K.

then he wasnt leaving.

now he is...
