Y'know what? You're right.

With Mozeliak (hereinafter "Moe" - nyuk nyuk nyuk) as the basis of comparison, anyone looks great.

Carl, Dayton, Herm....even G-Rob - they all look positively competent to me right now.

he's got some mean stuff today. my son and his wife are down there. i've got 4 grandkids here. 3 of them are napping w/grandma and one's been sitting behind me for the last hour grinding her teeth.

quite a game, though.

seclark 08-22-2010 03:00 PM

89 pitches through 9 innings. 3 hit shutout. helluva game for garcia.
sec

veist 08-22-2010 03:05 PM

Complete game shutout, 89 pitches. Guess that rest did him a world of good.

Marcellus 08-22-2010 03:17 PM

Just leaving the game. That was a blast. Garcia was nails.

If we make the playoffs thats the kind of performance combined with Carp and Waino that will make us hard to beat. 1 batter above the minimum, nobody got past first base,

But....this series showed again that against good/playoff teams we are nails. Playing down to other teams level is our issue and look whats coming up...a schedule of also rans....

The Cardinals had better figure out how to beat those bad teams consistently or we are not making the playoffs.

BigRedChief 08-23-2010 07:10 PM

so far so good. Pujols with a 3 run bomb. Lohse looks like the Lohse of a couple of years ago.

Frazod 08-23-2010 08:17 PM

We got 6 games left against them too, right?

Giants sweep the Reds and we got a race again.

I think we're screwed. I don't think we've got the guns to survive the one-two punch of losing Freese and Ludwick. And now Rasmus has a nagging injury? As we've seen all year, good pitching doesn't count for shit if you can't score any runs.

They've got the talent to do it easily.

But they don't have the stones.

They'll have another 3-5 game stretch where they nap through 4 losses against shitty teams and that'll be all she wrote. They'll kick a couple of good teams around, probably beat the Reds some more, but piss the season away by forgetting to show up against sub .500 teams.

It's a really easy team to hate.

If we make the playoffs our pithing stacks up against any teams pitching. And in the playoffs, almost every WS winner does it with pitching.

If we go 8-10 or so on this road trip...we may have learned how to beat bad teams.

Wainwright and Carpenter against the Pirates and Nats, and we are probably going to lose both games.

There's also the trading of Ludwick when you could have gotten Westbrook for nothing, and our refusal to give Craig and Greene ABs in favor of Lopez, Winn, Ryan and Schumaker.

It's a ****ing disgrace. This team has been mismanaged at every ****ing level.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-26-2010 07:12 PM

We are only 1 game out of the wild card. They still have 30+ games to get hot. playing like this......nada chance but still a lot of baseball to be played.

Miles and Feliez too. Craig almost homes in extra too. They need to get this game in the W column. We can sweep this weekend if we win this and wear out their bullpen.

It appears to be a death sentence. After that trade, we've got one great hitter, one good hitter (both of whom may be injured), two streaky-at-best hitters, and everybody else is either injured or sucks.

BigRedChief 08-26-2010 08:55 PM

Damn Pujols take it frikking easy jeezzz. We lose you we are defintely done this year.

John Mozeliak has done a pretty good job the last two years.

Luke Gregerson for Khalil Greene

Giving up Mortenson (serviceable #5) and Peterson because he waited too long to trade for Holliday

Giving up Perez and Todd for DeRosa, who was worthless.

Ludwick for a player we could have gotten for no prospects whatsoever.

40 million to Kyle Lohse.

Extending Ryan Franklin for two years

He's so ****ing bad it defies explanation.

The good news? He's making us forget all about Haren for Mulder.

Coach 08-26-2010 09:00 PM

Your GM isn't that bad, compared to Jim Hendry, who has arguably fielded two terrible Cubs team in franchise history, with a 110+ million payroll (probably higher, but don't have the numbers).

When he inherited a team with two of the five best pitchers in the league, if not all of baseball, and the single best player in the game by a wide margin, not to mention the best defensive catcher, and the best pitching coach, it's pretty hard to do much worse than this.

We have three replacement level players in our everyday lineup. You can't do much worse than that as a GM.

No, but what does the Cubs have, outside of probably Aramis and possibly-to-be-a-star in Castro? Those are the only players I can think of as Zambrano isn't worth a shit, Soto, no idea what to expect out of him and most other players are either scrubs or unknowns. The only player that I like is Marmol who has a filthy unheard of K-9 ratio, other than your normal wildness. Impressive that their season was finished well before the ASB, considering they have all that money.

Are you implying Aramis is good?

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-26-2010 09:13 PM

The Cubs have nothing, there's no doubt about that.

But Mozeliak inherited all of that, minus Holliday. He's done nothing but make the team worse since his arrival.

Frazod 08-26-2010 09:14 PM

He has potential to be a gold glover but probably because he has ADD he can't seem to remain focused for every game but who cares......no friggin way do you play Lopez in front of him again this season.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-26-2010 09:29 PM

Looking at Mozeliak's trades:

Edmonds for Freese: Win

Rolen for Glaus: If Rolen could have buried the hatchet with TLR, we'd probably already have 75 wins this year. Who could have predicted that bounceback, though? Still, a wash at best

Wallace, Mortensen, and Peterson for Holliday: A win overall, but a FAIL given that we could have just given up Wallace had we been sooner to the offer

Perez and Todd for DeRosa: I think this is somewhere in the EPIC FAIL thread

Gregerson for Greene: Also in the EPIC FAIL thread

Ludwick for Westbrook: Incomprehensibly stupid

Reyes for Perdomo: Both sides lost this trade.

He has drafted well, but near everything at the pro level has been a debacle.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-26-2010 09:30 PM

LaRussa is so stupid.

You have a position player languishing on the ****ing bench in an RBI situation and two ****ing times in a row you are going to bat a ****ing pitcher in this spot.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-26-2010 09:33 PM

Runner at second with no outs and we don't even try to play small ball, knowing that we have the really weak hitting Ryan and the 0-5 Jay up B2B. On top of that, we PH Waino instead of bringing in Brian Anderson.

Clean ****ing house and hire Oquendo. Pujols will stay if we hire him.

Not such a bad loss. I think if they would have rolled over and let Carp take the loss would have been much worse.

Hope Pujols ankle doesn't tighten up too much and Holliday's hand is okay.

Ramirez is an average third baseman, at best.

Mark Prior was also very good when healthy, but what does that get you?

What?

Holliday may be done for the year, Pujols is now severely banged up, we are 4 games back. We also trashed our bullpen and Garcia has struggled to go deep lately minus one start.

We blew a save after a great comeback and our offense shit down their legs whilst our manager completely quit trying to win.
