It's the one year Cincinnati or similar conference team deserves to be in, because there's just not any good alternatives. I think OK St and Baylor aren't top 10, but WTF would you replace with them? Notre Dame lost to Cincinnati and they've basically had the past two months off, yet are right there.... yet, who would replace them?

It really is a crazy year.

Just a bizarre year of CFB but really fun to watch.

OSU with a bonehead drive. Wasted two plays.

TomBarndtsTwin 12-04-2021 02:32 PM

BARELY short . . . . . . . . wow.

Crazy ending.

Glad, though. OK St. clearly doesn’t deserve to be in the playoff.

Bearcat 12-04-2021 02:33 PM

Oh shit.

Neither team really deserved to win that one.

tk13 12-04-2021 02:33 PM

Just inches short, if that.

smithandrew051 12-04-2021 02:33 PM

That third down was bad. Gave Baylor a gift.

Gary Cooper 12-04-2021 02:33 PM

And I thought the Chiefs' running backs were slow.

The Big 12 is lucky. Georgia would beat Oklahoma State by a hundred.

Tell me how I am wrong?

The B1G has more really good teams than the SEC this year.

Iowa, Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St.

SEC had 3 really good teams.

TomBarndtsTwin 12-04-2021 02:37 PM

This loss by Ok. St. probably guarantees the SEC gets two teams (Georgia and Bama), unless Bama gets blown out. Cincy and Michigan get the other two (assuming they win).

Michigan is the one I'd most worry about taking care of business. They haven't been consistent this year and Iowa is good enough to beat them if they aren't on top of shit.

As long as Alabama keeps it close, the committee will look at them favorably.

TomBarndtsTwin 12-04-2021 02:41 PM

Cincy’s gotta feel good about this game too. No Okie State to possible leap frog them. No way the committee could leap frog ND over them after losing to them earlier.

Cincy now controls their own destiny. No shenanigans. They just have to win to get in now.

tredadda 12-04-2021 02:43 PM

Big question now is if Alabama loses, do they still get in? I wish they would have lost to Auburn which could have made the decision to keep them out easier (assuming they lose to Georgia).

Agreed, but given Iowa is ranked 13th (no matter how right or wrong), I would think Michigan has to lose pretty badly to fall 3 spots and out.

I'm not one for conspiracies and shenanigans, but moving them to #2 was good strategy if the whole thing was about keeping a B1G team in the top 4. Leave Cincinnati at 4, because **** them if they lose. Keep Alabama at #3 because if they lose to #1, meh, it's easily justifiable to keep them in the top 4. So, move Michigan high enough that it would take a monumental loss to kick them out.

^ This. For the first time this year, Cincy truly controls their own fate. No chance of anyone jumping above them if they just win.

I guess.

Most years one or two teams prove to not be at the level of the others. Inevitably those teams are accused of being frauds.

Last year GA didn't make the playoffs...not sure what that has to do with Cincy making it this year.

Yeah, it's one thing to get up for a game against Notre Dame in the first month of the season, but completely different to do it in the playoffs.

There's a huge reason that Boise State/Oklahoma game lives as the best big bowl upset ever.... it never happens.

It's great Cincinnati has taken care of business and is clearly better than their in-conference competition..... but, just look at the inconsistency of Oklahoma State playing in the Big 12 and not remaining focused after a huge victory, then multiply that for Cincinnati versus Georgia when it really matters.

Alabama has the talent to beat Georgia and if they play their absolute best, they could win.

But they’re so inconsistent, their run game and OL are inconsistent. Defense is solid.

I personally think they’ll lose by 10+ today because they can’t run the ball and are going to be forced to pass and be one dimensional.

If you have Cincy and Michigan and Georgia in, and Bama loses a close one to Georgia, you wanna put in who instead of Bama?

Notre Dame.

Look at Alabama’s schedule this season-they face the same issue Notre Dame did. They faced a lot of teams that were down that are typically good(not their fault).

This would be their second chance at a win over a really good team.

Yep.... at this point it comes down to who can beat Georgia....... and if Alabama plays them close, the answer is yes, Bama could beat Georgia.

Can you say the same for (lol) Cincinnati or Notre Dame or Oklahoma State, etc?

You don't have to be amazing to make the playoffs, at least not this year.... Alabama can be flawed and still clearly be the better choice over any other team on the outside looking in.

Notre Dame?

What impressive win have they had this season? They had a chance at one, against Cincy, and they lost, convincingly.

Bama at least had a dominating win against Ole Miss. A Top 10 team.

If Bama plays Georgia close, they absolutely deserve to get in over Notre Lame. Even with a loss.

I don’t think I articulated my point correctly.

Notre Dame doesn’t have a win over a really good team, but suffered similarly to Alabama where a lot of teams on their schedule underperformed relative to their talent, history, etc.

Agreed.

So why are we putting them in over Bama who beat Ole Miss, when they don’t have an impressive win on their resume?

Again, if Bama gets dominated by Georgia then I have no problem kicking them out. But if they play Georgia close, a two loss Bama team is absolutely better to have in the playoff than a one loss ND team who lost to the only good team they played all season.

Wisconsin has 4 losses and is not even in the Top 25 of the Football Playoff rankings.

Well, then I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

I would rather see the best 4 teams in there that are going to give us the best games, rather than just taking a one loss team with no impressive wins, based solely on the fact that they are a one loss team.

TomBarndtsTwin 12-04-2021 04:08 PM

As I typed that, Bama about to take the lead on Georgia so most of this discussion may not matter at the end of the day.

You watch Bama play Georgia right now and they absolutely belong on the field with Georgia. Notre Dame does not.

They would get thrashed by either of these teams.
