Thanks to my radar detector I've gotten out of about 3 tickets in the last 2 months. Considering when I speed I don't f*** around
done 85 in a 55 (71 South) 75 in a 35 (E 47th St) and my finest achievement, 105 in a 45 on Blue River road.

On my 21st b-day I was late getting to a party. Got nailed for 121 in a 65 in OP on 69S. I have no clue if he was telling me the truth or not because the speedo only went to 85, so all I knew was it was over that. So he gets my license, sees it's my 21st, and immediately gets this look. Asks me if I've been drinking, I tell him "no" (which was the truth), and he has me blow on him. Goes to his car, calls it in. I am dead convinced that I'm going to jail. Comes back and gives me a ticket for 15 over. I about passed out. Tells me it's because it's my bday and I hadn't been drinking. He didn't want to haul me in.
I think most of my other tickets have been for 14 over, all of which I earned.
As for doubling down: Yes it's real and for me it was a must. Just call up the prosecutor's office wherever you got the ticket and ask them if you can plead to a non-moving violation. In JoCo they'll almost always tell you to pay double the fine and you're good. Other places may ask what you mean, in that case offer to double the fine or make a charitable donation, etc. I've never had a ticket go on my record and I've been busted in 3 states now. KS, MO, and Iowa.
