In the eyes of the NFL, he's a convicted criminal, DUI or not.

He's going to get 4 games under the NFL's criminal conduct policy, regardless of whether or not he was enrolled in the substance abuse program. It's very similar to what happened with Warfield - he wasn't suspended for the alcohol, he was suspended for the conviction.

One more screw-up and he misses a season.

You need to call up Holthus and see what he says. Then tell us the scoop.

Why isn't he interested in being part of the team?

But very rarely can you actually GET the compensation that's due for a tendered player.

In this case, we have a very REAL possibility of getting two reasonably high picks for Allen.

Do you really trust Carl Peterson to use those picks effectively given his history?

I don't like the possibility of the 4 game suspension anymore than any other person, but it is very hard to find players who play with the ability and passion that Allen does.

It's the latest in a string of DUIs. At some point it becomes felony.

Pay the man. Give him bonuses tied into games played and/or have clauses about not getting paid if suspended, etc.

I think we have other players we can build around, players with more natural talent, better upside, and without the off-the-field and behavioral issues.

I think either way you win. If he plays great, if you trade him he should have some real value.

Because he doesn't want to show up for offseason workouts. We've had lots of players with contract disputes still fulfill their obligations to their fellow players.

I thought it was only two, my apologies.

Herm Edwards gets to use those picks, and based on last season, I absolutely DO trust him to use them correctly.

Right, he's facing a 3rd, which is bad news.

StcChief 03-28-2007 09:58 AM

Turning into a real douche.... thinks he's money now.

Mr. Laz 03-28-2007 09:58 AM

so what's Jared Allen worth, Parker?

a 6th?

Eleazar 03-28-2007 10:01 AM

If he doesn't want to work out this offseason and is just going to roll into training camp and punch the clock, we don't need this year with him anyway. What a guy you want on your team would do would be to continue to work out and be a professional and give this year a real effort. I'd take the draft picks instead.

most states it's the third conviction that = felony.

Allen had one that he was on a probation / education program to have it down graded to something else, but then he got his second arrest so the judge gave him both convictions.

next arrest could be his third conviction, but sometimes that third arrest, depending on how much time goes by, can be another probation scenerio. To any event he's one conviction (not neccesarily one arrest) from being a felony.
