Arthur is awesome. He's the best character on the show. Doug is a great character as well.

I love how unappealing guys always end up with hot babes.

He's an overweight UPS guy with limited intelligence. Sounds like a real gem there, ladies.

Best episode has got to be when Doug shoots himself in the nuts with the stapler gun...

Of whom? Me, or television sitcoms that consistently pairs up goofy goofballs with supermodels?

Media in all its forms affects society. What we see on family sitcoms reflects what society holds as social norms and stuff like that. One of the things that sitcoms reinforce is that all women need to look like Leah Remini while all men can look like Kevin James, I think his name is.

Women need to have a particular shape, appearance, and manner while it's okay for men to be unattractive, slovenly, and frequently completely disinterested in the things important to his friends/family.

I hate that this has been typecast into sitcoms, and I believe it's one of the reasons that sitcoms have just grown stale.

There is quite a few decent comedy sitcoms out right now. I wouldnt touch that shit in the late 90's and early 2000's.

My name is Early is my fav comedy atm.
2 and a half men. Its a very good show.
King of Queens of course.
The Office is ok. I can take it in very small doses.
scrubs its just a damn great show imo.

Think thas about all i can think about, or ones i pay half ass attention too.

The wife and I were taken aback at some of the physical discrepancies between couples when we were on our honeymoon. Generally you figure it's because the guy has a lot of money, because I'm trying to figure out why a 90 pound woman would want to be trapped underneath a 260 pound gob of flab and chest hair....but then you see a guy like Kevin James get a girl like that, and well, you know that unless she's completely fucking crazy that would never happen, because he's physically hideous and mentally...err, subpar.

It may seem shallow, but human pair bonding generally is.

That is why I love Everybody Loves Raymond. It is one of the most realistic series ever made as far as family life and what the average family is.

Neither one looks like a model. Both have flaws. Both have issues with the in-laws. Both have trouble with the kids but manage just fine.

The only off thing about the series is Debra is a stay at home mom.

I love that show as well. I still think it's still pretty extreme with Raymond's indifference to his wife, but for the most part it's a very entertaining show and pretty realistic.

Oddly enough, I think the sitcom that most reflected the average family was Rosanne. But that might just be a reflection on my own upbringing more than anything.

WOW. Maybe the average disfunctional family. I hated that show. Of course, I can't stand Rosanne either.

EDIT OK maybe disfunctional was a little brutal. I see your point about working class issues. As I said, I really can't stand Rosanne Barr so I had a hard time really enjoying the show.
