If you go through La Crosse, you can visit the "barbed wire museum" in the morning, then do Boot Hill in the afternoon. [/hemied-tourguide]

I used to drive 100 miles out of my way to eat at Ray's in Goodland. I would do it again.

I agree with fraz. The best way to travel Kansas is as you sleep and someone else drives toward the nearest border as fast as possible.

Yeah, that place is good. Ralph & Ester's had a killer burger back in the day too. Decker's had a good pork tenderloin as well.

I am not familiar with either of those two, will make a note of it. Ray's had home made bread, real mashed potatoes, fresh veggies and corn fed beef. They were continually adding on to the place when I was regularly traveling out there.

You can't look 'em up...they're both gone now. These places were there in the early 80's when I went to High School in Goodland. I only know of Ray's Cafe by accident when I spent an afternoon there a couple of years ago.

So I grabbed the piano player and I punched him in the face
The piano player's out the music stopped
His boy had beef and he got dropped
Mike D. grabbed the money M.C.A. snatched the gold
I grabbed two girlies and a beer that's cold.

:D

My experience with Western Kansas is that there are quite a few places to stop for an hour or so and stretch your legs, but nothing you'd really want to plan on for a vacation. Last weekend I visited an awesome 'old west' tourist attraction in Fairplay, CO.
