It's the prefect time. We need to build this thing right for a change. Spend the big dollars on the QB instead of the TE position this time. (FWIW, that is not a bash at TG either... just the best player on offense should be the QB not the TE)

dude, why in the name of Len Dawson would you possibly want to spend millions on a younger version of DHuard? Mutt Ryan is a noodle-armed INT machine. Just because he's the best QB in a horrible QB draft class doesn't make him a franchise QB. You cant polish a turd and drafting that stinker would set this team back another 4 years.
It's OLine, early and often. Otherwise, you could have Peyton Manning back there and he'd still get killed. Mutt Ryan is nothing more than a future backup in this league. And the worst possible choice for this team.

We will have to disagree. I happen to think if Ryan was playing with a betteer cast of characters around him, he would already be signed by the Dolphins.

And FWIW, if we pass on Ryan, I would not be upset at all if we take Brohm. Maybe a little trade back from #17 and pick him up around 25 if it works out.

They have 13 picks, which means they can rebuild their line and acquire their QBotF this year, a luxury they will probably never, ever have again. Bench the QB as a rookie (which IMO all teams should do), give the new line a year to mature with Croyle/Huard taking the punishment, and then start the new 'savior' in 2009. And if Croyle plays well (not likely IMHO, but certainly possible), we're in a situation where he'd have great trade value in 2009, an offseason which will feature what might be the worst crop of QBs we've seen to date in the draft. The QBotF gets his feet wet in 2009 and then we're primed for a playoff run in 2010.

Those 6 high picks give them a ton of flexibility.

right on brother

Dude we will have a top 5 pick next year, and maybe the year after that. Ryan isnt worth a top 5 pick. I dont think he's even worth a top 15. Next year's QB class will have better talent than Matt Ryan. I would rather us take Brohm in the 2nd than waste the #5 pick on a QB who threw a ton of INT's in college.

Unfortunately, this is wrong. Next year's QB class is absolutely terrible. Who's there next year better than Ryan? Not Tebow. Uh... Sam Bradford? Absolutely not. There's, like, nobody.

From what I've read, Ryan didn't have a lot of talent to work with, and tried to force a lot of throws.

Now I can only speculate, and someone else might know, but if Ryan is as smart as he's reputed to be, then I'm betting a few of those picks are on the receivers.

Where did I say "draft Ryan"? The very first thing I said was that it was a separate issue from Ryan. All I said was if the Chiefs believe one of these quarterbacks is a franchise player, they need to do whatever it takes to draft him. Including Ryan, like it or not, but also including Brohm, Henne, and so forth. If they feel that strongly about one of them, they absolutely must take him. Because they have a full complement of draft picks, including 3 in the first 35. Because they have the ammunition to both rebuild the offensive line and grab a quarterback to sideline in 2008 and put on the field in 2009. If there's any year tailor-made for picking a QB high, and by that I mean at 5, at 17 or at 35, this is it.

***if and only if they believe one of them is a franchise QB***

Like who? NFLN and ESPN guys are all saying that next year's QB class will suck.
