I wonder how many accidents the guy has had all on his own.

Yea. It's a DUI. Driving under the influence. It is, and it should be prosecuted the same. The charge is self explainitory. It's not diving while drunk.

Don't get me wrong. I don't do it, or condone it, but I don't think it's the danger that drinking is.

Driving under the influence of anything like that is stupid. Drinking and others just happen to be a lot worse "imho" hell I drove around for weeks with a broken leg and wouldn't take the pain pills because I wasn't comfortable driving on that crap.

Well this afternoon, an Impala pulls up in front of our first bay, windows all tinted out, and it sits there for about 5-10 minutes. Well I go to get an order on a vehicle and the person rolls the window down accompanied by billows and billows of marijuana smoke rolling straight down my nasal passages, so much so I thought I was going to suffocate. Well he asks if we give free transmission checks and I say we do, and he says "ok I will take one of those", he was obviously either not to smart or just a little to under the influence. Well I tell him I need to see if I have someone to test drive it, and I did not at that particular time. So I go back out to him and he rolls the window down, and thats when he shocked me, he actually just started smoking the blunt right in front of me and blowing his smoke pretty much straight into my face. So I told him he could stop by in the morning and we could spin it.

Well in my situation, what would you have done (all in hypotheticals). My brother says "oh you shouldn't let them smoke weed in the parking lot", but how was I too know what they were doing if I couldn't see them? Should I of called the police when I became aware of their use of a controlled substance. Personally I said no, because I really would fear the reprocussions of this in the area we are located. Boy oh boy did I inhale a lot of that smoke, my head is pounding. It was really unbelieveable. Usually you find weed pieces scattered throughout customers cars but never have they been so blunt as to demonstrate the proper way to smoke marijuana.

OMG MARIJUANA

I'd have no problem calling the cops, imagine you owned the business are you going to let some idiot openly smoke weed and even risk letting customers see that? That would reflect badly on the business.

As far as cops having better things to do, a guy like this 99% of the time has warrants and 99% of the time you can find an officer nearby to assist a non emergency such as this one, this is what they're paid for.

If you smoke and don't drive, I don't give a damn at all. Live and let live.

If you smoke weed while you're behind the wheel, it damn well is.

It affects your perception and response time. Perhaps not in the same manner as alcohol does, but it certainly affects you. It also qualifies legally as Driving Under the Influence.

I have zero sympathy for any idiot that hops behind the wheel when intoxicated, be it alcohol, grass, coke, meth, pain pills, or whatever. As far as I'm concerned, take their license for 5 years first offense. 2'nd offense, lock their ass up for 5 years. AFAICS, if you do that, you're showing nothing but contempt for the life of every other driver and passenger on the road with you.

Yes, I may be overreacting. No, I don't care if I am.

Thanks, BT. For the record, I don't have any problem with you. It's just a real trigger for me. I can see where you are coming from in that it doesn't affect you nearly as dramatically as alcohol does. However, I'm happy the law doesn't make a real distinction on that point.

I didn't take it personally, and I think you judged my perception of it correctly.
