Who do you take at 10?

I think he would be the perfect compliment to Bowe. Not mention with Haley's track record with receivers we could have our own Irvin/Harper set with those two. Also its not like we dont have a couple of solid options not great but solid options at #2 right now to allow us for a good development project.

If we trade Tony G, we will need someone who can produce right away.

I really don't see the 49er's wanting Sanchez as much as it is rumored. They have a lot invested in Alex Smith and I don't they have given up on him yet. They also have Shaun Hill and we know the head coach likes Hill. I don't see the 49ers as a player in the Sanchez sweepstakes.

As for the mock draft in this thread, my thoughts:

1. Crabtree at 6 - Good value. Only other choice would be Orakpo.
2. Britton at 38 - Again, good value. Should be able to start at RT and backup at LT if need be.
3. Johnson - not a bad value for where he is drafted, I just happen to think he will be a bust. Maybe explore Kruger, Brown or Sidbury instead.
4. Jared Cook - good value.

On paper it looks like a decent value draft, but there isn't much help on defense.

Also, Crab, Britton and Johnson all start and contribute from day one. And if we trade Tony we need Crab to catch some balls. Cook should also contribute on passing downs. He is a superior receiver to Cottam. I think Johnson could be good if you let him do what he is naturally good at, which is rushing the passer, playing in coverage, and chasing the football. He will struggle when the offense runs directly at him bc of his difficulty in taking on blockers. I think you can hide his weaknesses to a point with using him as an OLB in the 3-4. He's got a huge upside as a pass rusher. He's 6'7" with long arms and ran like a 4.58 40 at about 270 #s. That's crazy. I really wanted Barwin, but I think he will go early in the 2nd.

I think MJ is a steal at that pick, nothing wrong with taking a gamble with that kind of upside in that range. But if we did take Barwin at 38 who would you look at with the 55

At 55 you could hope Unger slips, Wood or Gilbert.

Depends on how the board falls. Orakpo, Mauluga, Maclin, Tyson Jackson, and Andre Smith would all be candidates.

Next year is going to be a far better defensive draft...

That's a generalization. You pick the player, not the position.

I really don't know. Maybe a guard or center. I like Britton much better than the other possible RT that are available after him.

bdeg 04-14-2009 10:35 AM

He'd be really good value, but I doubt he makes it that far.

I guess you could consider taking Cook at 55 too. And try to address O-line with the 3rd round pick. I just really think we need a RT more than a guard. That's why I like Britton at 38.

It is very possible that Johnson could fall to 55. I think someone is going to reach for Sidbury and I bet he goes before pick 55.

I pick the player AND the position. Thank you very much.
