By the way, if I were choosing anywhere, it would probably be Madrid, Spain or somewhere in Central or South America. Belize or Honduras or Costa Rica (but somewhere like Jaco or Drake).

I can't imagine anyone making a conscious decision to move to Odessa, TX.

I moved from KC to San Diego 13 years ago and I love it here.

Nice area. Went out there in '05, saw the Zoo, had breakfast at the Big Kitchen, drove out to the other game reserve on the way to Disneyland... nice weather, nice topography. Must be murder, though, with all those Charger fans. On the bright side, you can go to Tijuana on the weekends and see a donkey show. :)

The problem for me with the nice Cities in Cali is the real estate market.

I'd go pretty much anywhere in the continental United States except for Florida or any major cities.

Does my new boss post on ChiefsPlanet too? That'd be hard to replace.

As to #1 place to live:

Wife says Key West.
I says KC.

The cost of living adjustment would hurt me, not help me, so that 20% could turn into a loss depending on which podunk town I choose.
