Don't they put micro chips in freight and little boxes are positioned over the highway and they read chips in the freight as a method of checking the load that's being carried?

What are those poles alongside the freeways? 10:00 PM PST on Sunday, November 8, 2009 Special to The Press-Enterprise Q: Redlands resident Nelda M. Stuck e-mailed to ask about the mysterious poles along the freeway that appear to prop up solar panels. "There seems to be nothing at the top of the pole -- no camera, for example -- just a small cap to the pole," Stuck wrote. What are these poles for? A: The poles do in fact support solar panels, which power traffic-monitoring devices, said Shelli Lombardo, public information officer for Caltrans' eighth district. The poles Stuck noticed are likely part of a network Caltrans began putting up in August 2008 along Interstate 15 and Interstate 215 in Riverside County and Interstate 210, Highway 91 and Interstate 10 in San Bernardino County, she said. The poles link to sensors embedded in the roadway that "keep track of the flow of traffic," Lombardo said. Data about the number of vehicles on the freeway, their speeds and whether a wreck has occurred can be transmitted from the sensors to a new traffic-management center Caltrans will run in Fontana. As of late October, the center was under construction, but the equipment was already installed, Lombardo said. Shorter poles were mounted along I-15 and I-215 in the Temecula-Murrieta area, Lombardo added. --- Funny, I was talking about traffic on the 5, I find out about traffic using www.511sd.org It looks like those poles help monitor traffic. |
No, that's not it, Buck.

I'll bet they just support solar panels for traffic monitoring devices. I could be wrong.

NOTE TO THE RESISTANCE: Rain Man can no longer be trusted. |
Im pretty sure they're traffic cams. The traffic cams are solar powered, in a white box.
