Yea Cody got picked by Baltimore, I'm sure he'll such, uh huh.

I hope you enjoy the gadget player and backup midget CB with our 2's.

ChiefsCountry 04-23-2010 10:37 PM

Baltimore doesnt strike out in the draft other than QB.

I think you're off here, Mecca.

First off, McCluster's been nothing other than a playmaker. He's a freaking stud. I think he was probably taken a little high and considering the Chiefs have other needs, I was a little surprised by the selection. But there's no denying that the guy is a playmaker in the mold of Warrick Dunn, Darren Sproles and Wes Welker. If he comes in and contributes like Welker and Dunn, no one will give a shit if someone else was on the board.

Secondly, Arenas isn't exactly a midget. He's 5'9, 199 and was a serious playmaker for Alabama. He'll start as the nickel immediately and will likely force Carr to nickel down the road. He's an electrifying returner and Gruden compares him to Ronde Barber, who is barely 5'10 and 184.

While I agree that I expected the Chiefs to address the middle of the defense, I'm not at all bummed out that these guys were the selections.

The Chiefs needed leaders and playmakers and they got them in the second round.

Mecca 04-23-2010 10:43 PM

Didn't we just draft a CB you know, last year?

It doesn't matter how good Berry is if all he's doing is tackling RB's 8 yards up field.

in a perfect world, weis works his magic on cassel and you're correct about our second rounders (and shaun smith somehow becomes a great nose tackle).

I just have the nagging feeling in my gut that we aren't that lucky. :(

The Chiefs needed playmakers alright.

At OLB. And ILB. And NT. And WR2. And SS.

Instead, we get a guy who's upside is a slot WR - when there were legit WR's on the board, and another nickle corner, just a year after taking - that's right, a nickle corner.

Don't even get me started on trading up for a ****ing TE two goddamn years in a row.

Everson Griffen
Daryl Washington
Koa Misi
Sergio Kindle
Linval Joseph
Sean Lee
Terrence Cody
Major Wright
Chad Jones
Donald Butler

All guys we passed on at some point in the night.

Take any combination of 3 or 4 guys off that list instead of the players we took, and this defense is fixed for the next decade.

Instead, we still have the worst front 7 in the league.

But we have 2 nickle corners, 3 slot WR's and 4 TE's. Much more important.

L.A. Chieffan 04-23-2010 10:47 PM

Do we still have a 4th? If we can somehow take Campbell and Olsen and maybe a decent LB, all is not lost.

So we'll have two corners under 5'10" at corner?

Uh...I don't see the Chargers, Raiders, or Donx drafting smaller and slower WR's...

L.A. Chieffan 04-23-2010 10:48 PM

That TE pick was brutal, shocking really.

I'm sorry we took a gadget player with a high 2 when our team has holes in core positions, that's brilliant.

Abso****inglutely. Gadget players with holes all across core positions.

Weis might be able to change where Cassel throws the ball but not how hard and how long...

KCrockaholic 04-23-2010 10:50 PM

I really like what we have done in this draft. I'm not going to pout because it didn't go exactly how I wanted it like some people. McCluster is a playmaker, Arenas is a playmaker, Berry is a playmaker and Jon Asamoah is a great pick at RG for our zone blocking scheme. Tony Moeaki will be a wait and see player, but it is nice to actually have a pass catching TE to be part of our offense now.

Yeah, Denver just drafted two kids that are 6-3+ and run like ****ing deer.

That's gonna work out great.

The Patriot way is leveraged heavily toward speciality players.
