Yup.

As I said several weeks ago, would be surprised if the guy sticks.

Weis doesn't really care if your TE can catch. He really wants those guys to be really good blockers first, pass catchers second.

Moeaki is the opposite though...

Nah. They don't have to be officially under the cap until the first game. None of these guys counted against the cap and none of them were receiving weekly salaries.

They're just cleaning up and shaping the roster. They'll need to cut from 85 to 53 at the start of the season, so we'll probably see at least 40 more roster changes before Week One.

what cap are you referring to?

Oh yeah, duh.

But there are still mandated roster limits in place.

Porter has been our 2nd string RT this whole offseason so far I believe..

If he can stay on the field, I wouldn't say he's the exact opposite, but he's a much better all-purpose player.

O'Connell seems like a pretty good example of why Pioli shouldn't have been in charge of last year's draft. He's Leroy Banks except a worse receiver.

HUH? Who gives a flying flip, O'Connell was a 7th round draft pick. Most 7th rounder are lucky to even make the team let alone be a contributor on the field.

Yes, the 7th round pick is the perfect example. Sure.

Moeaki is supposed to be a good blocker. Of any of the decent receiving tight ends in the class, he was one of the best blockers of the bunch.

Him being able to catch the ball is an added luxury. But in Weis' offense, it's more important that you can block. Daniel Graham and Christian Fauria were both outstanding blocking tight ends.

When Charlie Weis left NE, the Pats started focusing on receiving tight ends who were adequate blockers. O'Connell fits a very long profile of Tight Ends the Patriots have picked post-Weis who never lived up to their draft position.

I think valuing a guy like Moeaki over a receiving tight end like Jimmy Graham hopefully shows that Weis has a lot more influence than we realize over the draft.

I would expect that at least a couple of these cuts are happening this early to give the guys a better chance of finding another team to land on. Smith and Banks both fit that model, IMO.

As I've heard Haley say "you can't make the club in the tub" so i'm not surprised to see Kolby smith getting cut
