I wouldn't. I'd get right back into the job market. It could take you 6, 12, 24 months to find something. This economy is frightening.

That's actually a good point. My wife and I have been flabbergasted by the Springfield job market. We're about to start truck driving over it.

my mother-in-law has been out of work for the better part of three years. granted, part of that was taking time to care for her mom (alzheimer's) and not seriously looking, but the job market here is...bad.

Severance (4 weeks), unpaid vacation time (76 hours), and unemployment.

Seriously, I would start looking right now. You will have a few weeks off whether you want it or not. I was unemployed until just recently, I got lucky and got hired a few weeks before the money ran out. Otherwise I probably would have lost my house. Unemployment doesn't last forever, you have to plan for the worst in this economy. I don't want to see anybody lose their place or have to sell their car [or live out of their car] because they couldn't find work.

How much longer until you finish school? Any ideas what you want to do until then?

I finish getting my Legal Assistant certificate in 37 weeks. 67 until I am a Paralegal.

I'd love to get into a law firm as a secretary or file clerk or something just to get my foot in the door.

Sorry to hear it. Pretty smart move getting back into school.

Good luck, kiddo.

Went out with a friend tonight. I have a bottle of South Australia Grenache called Bitch waiting.

Yep... better to take even just 2-3 hours a day now and get a start on it than wait too long. Every opening you don't see today could very well be filled in a few weeks.

Cool... yeah, that would be perfect, and it would be a nice advantage to show them why you want to work there and be able to show them that you're already working on moving up in the company before you even get the job.

There's that, and the fact that not too many prospective employers in unrelated fields are going to be real thrilled with the idea of hiring someone who is likely going to be moving on in a year. That's what worries me about her situation.

Damn, that company has really worked you over the last few years. Sure hope you find something soon. Good luck!!!
