I'm guessing his decision was hinged on what Harbaugh is going do.

Can't see a kid coming back for his senior year without the coach that recruited him.

It doesn't have to be. It just has to be in place before the rookies are signed.

True. But the #1 pick is almost always signed before the draft.

It might well be. It depends on who it is, doesn't it?

Not to mention a degree from Stanford pretty much guarantees future wealth. The kid may not give a ratsass when or if he plays in the nfl.

Most of the time they aren't. And in a year when doing so will require giving up an extra $30+ guaranteed, he certainly won't be.

Luck will be the #1 pick next year, and get pretty much the same salary as he would have gotten this year. Circumstances have changed to make this a not-so-terrible decision.

Andrew Luck to return to school.. Luckily for Panther fans though, Jimmy Clausen will keep them in the running for Luck again next year

AND THE NUMBER 1 OVERALL PICK IN THE NFL DRAFT DOESN'T?!?!?!?!?!

This was a stupid decision. Not even a little bit stupid - a goddamn moronic one.

These rookies will get their guarantees chopped too, as their contracts won't be negotiated until after the CBA is ratified.

It's a ****tard move, but Blaine Gabbert has to love it.

Bambi 01-06-2011 02:00 PM

wow, really wants that architecture degree!

If someone offered you a huge ass promotion at your current job, and you had the option of taking it right now or next year, would you really put it off until next year? You're happy right now, so that means it's a good idea to not make the smart decision for your future?

That is of course assuming that Andrew Luck wants to play in the NFL. I hadn't heard if that's his desired career path.

Donger 01-06-2011 02:01 PM

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, the odds-on favorite to be the No. 1 pick in this spring's NFL draft, announced Thursday that he will stay in school and play his redshirt junior season. "I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012," Luck said in a statement. The school announced that Luck wouldn't be made available for comment.

Then he shouldn't be drafted in the first round.

Either two things will happen:

a) they will establish caps based on current payscales, and give a small set raise each year;

or

b) if there is a pay cut they will sign short contracts and holdouts will be a much bigger problem.

Players are going to get their money.

Well they do need a QB & it wouldn't take much to tank that team, especially if they leave the QBs alone.

1. Take the Dolphins job

2. Let Henne/Thigpen/whomever suck it up at QB for the year.

3. ????

4. Profit/take Luck.
