I went to night 1 of the Fayetteville Roots Festival tonight. Holy shit. This lineup just keeps getting better.

Tonight I saw:
Hoots and Hellmouth (badass)
Steel Wheels (even more badass)
David Grisman Folk Jazz Trio (ehh... I've seen Grisman a bunch).

Hillbenders are currently playing at another venue, but I had to come in early tonight because we're opening our store tomorrow and staying out late tomorrow night for....

WHAT??? John Prine is one of the greatest living songwriters... awesome. I wonder how long it'd take me to get there... I am already in Dallas right now for my mom's birthday.... :D

The fun thing is all the bands are staying at a retreat center here, and they stay up late night just hanging out and playing together (some of our good friends put this whole thing together). Well... that retreat center is also the neighborhood pool we belong to. I told my wife, "We're going to the pool tomorrow because I bet the bands will be there." Tonight, while onstage, one of the guys from The Steel Wheels said, "We're really loving our digs. I was swimming laps at the pool today." Hah! So I may be chilling by the pool with John Prine tomorrow.

Looks like it's rainy all day (which sucks, since there were lots of outdoor stages), so my poolside plans have gone awry.

Awesome group of guys. I met them last year at a local show here and not only did they put on a good show, they were really down to earth. Although not Chiefs fans....maybe they're smart too! :evil:
