He seems to almost be saying that Palko has the backup job because it's his turn. He uses the word "conscienceless"

I think what he is trying to say is Palko has worked to earn it and throwing Stanzi to the wolves would be dumb as shit at this point. He hasn't put in the work yet.

That's what I get from it. It may be wrong but the logic isn't completely flawed.

Chiefnj2 11-16-2011 10:02 PM

NFL coaches are conservative and terrified of criticism.

Look at Atlanta. Smith goes for it on 4th and inches and gets crucified for it in the media.

You have an abbreviated season where Palko knows the system from last year. Haley made up his mind from preseason that Palko would be the #2. There was no competition. Palko got to run with the first string in game 3 and played almost all of game 4. Stanzi didn't touch the ball in game 4. He had no opportunity in game time to win the job.

Haley is taking the safe conservative approach.

Also, conscienceless? That's a rather constipated word. If I were a journalist I would try to find some other way around it to convey the same meaning.

Well, Pioli and Haley are fans of sticking with what has worked in the past. I'm sure Pioli credits the reason Tom Brady was successful from the get go was that he was ready for it. Period. As has been pointed out, Brady was also inactive forever. He was the 4th string QB(the coaches were obviously blind and reeruned) but eventually he worked passed that and EARNED the #2 spot. Whereas here in KC, Jamaal Charles was backup to Thomas Jones, Baldwin is behind Breaston, Moeaki was behind Pope, DJ was behind Williams. Last year TJ was behind Shaun Smith, this year he's a top 3-4 DE,, Hudson behind Wegs, Gaither behind Richardson. This team makes a guy earn what's coming to him, even his Arrowhead. They are not into making changes for change's sake.

Stanzi wasn't ready to start, he had the playbook for less than 2 weeks before the 1st preseason game. Still looked good, despite no protection.

On top of all of that, at this point, Stanzi has been concentrating solely on becoming a better QB, and running scout team. He hasn't even prepared to be a backup yet. He hasn't been asked to get ready for a game with a game plan yet and "be ready". Again, Haley is a "steps" guy. Just listen to his presser's he references this constantly(it's a step in the right direction, a good step forward, more, but I can't rememeber). This is the next "step" for Stanzi, preparing for a team and learning a gameplan as a backup. A lot less pressure. Let him do that once or a few times. Then, if it happens, I'm sure he'll prepare all week, worry free thinking he'll be the backup, then find out late in the week he'll be the starter. Again, if that happens. Ramping him up. Just like Haley's preseason plan.(Which some of you might still be butthurt about. It happened how it happened. No biggy. I was a fan and still am. I like that Haley is willing to take risks sometimes. If it worked he's a genius, if not, then the worst thing that happens is a slow start. Lots of teams had that without our preseason plan, every year.)

Stanzi needs to be sprinkled in, like your wife sprinkled in the salt peter. A little bit stronger dose as time goes by. How they do that IDK

crossbow 11-16-2011 10:54 PM

Would you trust Barry Richardson to protect your rookie QB? So why get him broken for nothing.

rico 11-16-2011 11:13 PM

I like the idea of having a rookie or project QB running the scout team for an appropriate duration of time. If anything, it could potentially diversify their skill set.

Okie_Apparition 11-16-2011 11:17 PM

They both got to throw to Baldwin while he was on the mend. That should give them some level of game time comfort

Tylerthigpen!1! 11-16-2011 11:17 PM

Remember most of yall wanted Battle cut because of his preseason play?

Watching Barry Richardson "block" drives me nuts. He is so slow. To me, he looks like someone trying to push a refridgerator into a U Haul..... unfortunately for him (and us), NFL caliber defenders move at a much faster pace than refridgerators.

God there is so much stupid in this thread, I can't even process it.
I'm glad they are not going to throw him in there to die on National television.
Let Palko be the sacrificial lamb.
Stanzi hasn't even been active, and you guys want him to face Tom Brady (who was inactive all but one game his rookie season) on monday night, when Barry Richardson is playing like the worst T in football.

Screw that. let's throw him in there and ruin his ass.

At this point, I can't really say I care who plays.

However, whoever plays QB will not be facing Tom Brady.

He'll be facing the New England defense.
