But what if they plan to draft another prospect next year?

Look, all this posturing about "Only first round QB's can win a Super Bowl" is just nonsense. Yet when Brees or Kaepernick or other 2nd round QB's are brought up, that's different.

Again, it's clear that Reid and Dorsey aren't comfortable with this year's crop of QB's. It's been said over and over and over again that this is a weak class. There are faults with every QB. So for them to trade for Smith shouldn't be a surprise or a shock, nor should it indicate that they will NEVER draft a QB and develop him.

All it means that it won't likely happen in 2013. Big ****ing deal.

It's not a scientific poll. Anybody can vote as many times as they want. So don't get your knickers in a twist.

HonestChieffan 02-28-2013 04:39 PM

This will change everything.

If you don't think Smith is in the top half of the NFL you are ****ing crazy. I could easily name you 16 worse starting QBs. If we count QBs that have started at some point last year, I can count 5 between our two teams alone.

While I agree, the problem is that we don't have a 2nd round pick anymore (probably) and I doubt we use our 3rd on a QB after spending 34 for Smith. Landry Jones in the 4th or 5th round, yippie.

Then more power to them if they are trading back to get a QB next year. Admittedly, I haven't spent any time watching Thomas, Boyd, Bridgewater, or Manziel because I assumed that the Chiefs would draft Geno or Barkley at #1. I can't make a valid opinion on any of those QBs.

That's the thing: No one knows anything because Reid and Dorsey haven't publicly addressed. I'm guessing they won't until March 12th, when the Smith trade becomes official.

One thing is certain: Neither guy has lied or misled the fans to date, so I'm sure they'll let us know what they're thinking.

Until then, just chill...

I'm tempted to set up a filter that converts "true fans" to "the vast majority of the population" since that's what it's turned into lately.

I'm sad more than anything.

Thinking that we are looking at going into the season with Smith, Stanzi and a Landry Jones quality is depressing right now.

It's February. A lot can happen between now and July 25th.

Clearly, they feel that there is no one in this draft ready to lead this team to the playoffs in 2013. With the window of opportunity closing on players like Hali, Johnson, etc., they acquired a QB they believe can win now and win big.

All this posturing about "Well, Smith will NEVER lead a team to the Super Bowl" is just that: Posturing. Moreover, it's ****ing bullshit because I seriously doubt that many of these very same fans have watched Alex Smith consistently over the past two seasons. They just want to whine and complain because for the past 6 months, it's been the "In Thing" to do.

Will this acquisition provide the results that Reid and Dorsey want? Who knows. Seriously, who ****ing knows? But to state that Alex Smith is Matt Cassel or that Smith won't win but six games a year and so on is just plain ****ing stupid.

I've watched him. I agree that he's a good QB. I saw him elevate his play in the postseason and I was impressed. I think this last season Harbaugh went with the QB that he believes has a higher ceiling. That doesn't mean that Smith sucks. The Chiefs need someone that can start this next season, and I don't see any reason why Smith can't be a quality starter.

KCFaninSEA 02-28-2013 05:14 PM

Do I think the Chiefs gave up to much for AS? Yes, I do if the #34 was involved. But, I also understand there is no better option going into 2013. The Geno lovers have got it wrong, IMO. The FO saw it, every evaluator sees it, most other people see it but the fact is that none of these QB's coming out this year will be better than AS. Maybe one might be good but most see that the likelyhood isn't very good. People here don't care if they draft Ryan Leaf, just draft one. That is not a good statement or a good thing to do if you're the FO.
