In terms of ceremony, I find the Papal Conclave to be fascinating as hell because in the end, the pope actually does dictate the direction of the catholic church and could legitimately make a difference. So the combination of legitimate present impact + ceremony is interesting to me. But royal rugrats? I just don't get it. This has absolutely no true impact on the world at large. Well, unless you believe that the absence of a royal brood could create some sort of modern War of the Roses whereupon Britain breaks out into full-scale slaughter to determine the next ruling family in the absence of a legitimate heir.

So yes, if you've been watching Game of Thrones recently, I suppose this could be of some sort of relevance to you.

I couldn't care less about the "Royal" family. But the answer to your question shouldn't be limited to "around here" but "Where, other than Great Britain, should this matter?".

The short answer is that "It doesn't".

But 99.999999% of the inhabitants of this planet aren't wealthy beyond their wildest imagination, don't have a royal bloodline spanning hundreds of years that helped shape a nation. They only imagine being a princess or queen, which can break them free, even if for a few minutes, from their mundane and tedious lives.

It's soap opera on the grandest stage. It's for chicks.
