I loathed Clausen as a prospect and didn't want anything to do with either Leinhardt or Sanchez. I felt both were products of a system supported by NFL level talent all around them on both sides of the ball. I did and do think Geno had the tools to be a successful NFL level QB. However, he's in a real shit storm right now because of the stupidity and media focus on Ryan and Sanchez - two guys who just can't seem to keep their idiocy out of the media spotlight. That is creating an absolute feeding frenzy with the media right now. As soon as they dump Ryan and release Sanchez after the 2013 season when it's fiscally feasible to do, Geno will have a much better chance at success due to the lessening of focus by the media. |

Peyton Manning's 3rd preseason game as a rookie:
11 for 21 for 123 yards and 2 INTs. Manning played into the third quarter and his Colts lost 33-3... to Ryan Leaf's Chargers. Not saying Geno is going to turn into Manning, but JFC people, it is the third preseason game of his rookie season. |

So I don't know if a Geno Smith ever lives up to his potential. (Whatever that is) |

I'll freely admit I wanted Geno here. The way I saw it, he could come here and ride the pine behind Alex and Chase with zero pressure on him this season and probably next. Andy could teach him how to run an NFL offense and Alex/Chase could teach him how to be a pro. That being said, top overall picks shouldn't have to be taught any of that.
I liked the guys skills as a QB, and think he can still be a gifted passer. But he is going to go down in flames in New York with the sideshow that is the Jets. |
I don't love Bray, but at least we didn't use a first overall pick on him like people here wanted to do with Geno.

You draft a QB at 1.1 when they are franchise QB's who make the talent around them better. Many of US have said that over and over. |
