Maybe they want to evaluate the WR/TE position a little closer, in game action, while working with Smith at the helm.

If they were planning on trading Daniel they would feature him not play him less.

There's a lot of things that you can argue that Smith doesn't do well, but if he is missing a receiver by that much, then you can bet your ass that it almost assuredly was a miscommunication.

And make no mistake, Alex Smith isn't GrBac or Cassel.
He isn't one to point fingers elsewhere when he ****s up.

Against 2nd team, or worse, defensive players? Not sure what you gain there. I guess they get a 'feel' for each other and such. Is the risk in a totally meaningless game worth it?

maybe they hope to feature our TE's against the 2nd string and make them look good for trade bait?

rumor about trading a TE and Kicker earlier

I would say yes, the risk is worth it. We have a young/new offensive line. We have a lot of decisions to make at the receiver position. And, we have to be firing on all cylinders right out of the gate come regular season time. Play a lot this week, and next week. Then let the back end of the roster have game 4.

Just wish they'd get the regular season going so we can put atleast a few of these tired ass arguments to bed.

Have you not been here during regular season before?

Coogs 08-13-2014 10:18 AM

He played the 1st half of game 2 against the 49ers last year too. Not a big issue IMO.

Marcellus 08-13-2014 10:19 AM

BTW whats with the name change Scott?

The Smith argument will never end, but some of the others will be answered, like how many QB's we're going to keep, which receivers make the cut etc.

Got tired of my old handle and read a tweet from camp about "Bray to Jenkins on a go for an easy 6" and that inspired me.

Nobody said this.

I should have said "that they are going to let Smith walk after his contract is up."

Recipe for disaster, IMHO.

To allow a starter to get game reps in order to be ready for the season?

Why play any starters at all in the preseason?
