Sounds like a story I need to hear!!!!

Fair to say that Gonzalez has better taste in women than Kelce?

Red Dawg 05-24-2023 02:39 PM

I don't hate him therefore no one else should.

Pretty clear that the right move is doing the opposite of what Rude Bitch does

I was roughly college aged and met up with some family at training camp in River Falls. My little cousin (about 12 years old at the time) wanted to get autographs, so we did the usual fan thing where we bombard the shuttle that dropped guys off at the dorms and the dining hall. Usually only ever got rando undrafted twats from that group.

Anyway, on the second day I went off with my cousin between practices while the rest of the fans were trying to do the same shuttle strategy. We were by ourselves, but then saw two dudes walking towards us on the sidewalk. And one of them was Moby Dick! Err I mean.... Tony Gonzalez!

So the kid runs forward and does the adorable little "Mr. Greene... want my Coke?" voice and asks for his autograph. Tony keeps walking. Ignores him. The kid asks again. Still nothing. The guy who was walking next to him must have been some nameless trainer or whatever who worked for the team, because he said, "Now, Tony... remember what Mr. Hunt said about being nicer to the fans?" Tony gave him a scowl and says, "Ok, kid. What do I sign?"

"Could you sign my two hats?" Tony goes, "I'm only doing one. Pick one." My cousin started stammering a bit, "Well, uh, I was hoping you could do both because one is for me and the other is for my family in..." "WHICH ONE, MAN?!!!"

The trainer dude softly goes, "Tony....." so Tony grabbed both hats, signed them, and shoved them back at my cousin. He speedwalks past us, and I decide to be a dick and call in a high pitched voice, "Mr. Gonzalez, could you sign my shirt?" and that's when he said, "Nah, just go **** yourself."

I thought it was hilarious at the time, but now after the years of reflecting on it coupled with the lack of hardware that Tony actually gave us compared to now, my memories of Tony with the Chiefs are just of him being a giant asshole for unnecessary reasons. I get how athletes don't want as many of their autographs floating around out there, but good lord... he was given two worn hats with a bunch of other signatures on it, most of them training camp fodder. If my 12 year old cousin wanted the signatures to sell as sports memorabilia, he had already totally ruined the value of those hats. It was pretty ****ing obvious he just wanted the signature as a memory so he could say he got Tony Gonzalez's ****ing autograph. And he was a goddamn dorky little kid. It wasn't like a creepy adult such as myself was trying to get the signatures.

I hold a grudge I wont forgive Neil Smith or Tony G. Its no skin off their asses but I just dont care about them.

I did catch a T shirt from Tony G at a fan appreciation at Arrowhead. Some friends decided to go and went with them really not my thing and it was hot and boring with players disinterested. They stretched did some calisthenics half assed walked thru some drills. When the practice was over the players had boxes of t shirts and those shirt canons and were firing into the crowd. We were on the 45 YL about 15 rows back. Tony comes to the rail at edge field below us and fires away. It was kinda strange like time stopped as I saw it was coming near me. I didn't stand I just reached out my left hand i am right handed and snagged it mid air. Tony laughed then gave a thumbs up. I then saw the young kid it was heading right for one row behind and a seat to the left of me. It was obviously shot at and for the kid so felt really bad and gave it to him. It was really just an instinctive reaction. The kid was happy it was a medium and he would grow into it and I need a large anyway. He wore it out of the stadium. My buddies said that thing was moving like a rocket and would have smacked the shit out of that kid. I dunno but it seemed like it was just floating. I always felt Tony wanted to knock the snot out of the kid.

My wife volunteered for his charity here in KC for a few years. We met him at his charity banquet a few times. He was a class act to us there. Can’t speak for other places though.

Tony is an all time great at his position but Kelce is much more likeable. Maybe it’s because Travis plays for a winning franchise and Tony played for some shit teams but Gonzalez came across as a dick at times.

BossChief 05-24-2023 11:15 PM

I just stopped in to say **** Tony Gonzalez.

Meh, When i was a kid i met Mark McGwire in Oakland, he was a complete dick, but, i dont hate him, i loved watching him hit homers. It was fun! Point is, i dont take any of that shit serious. lol On the other hand Jose Canseco, was the ****ing coolest ****ing guy on that 88 Oakland A's team, go figure. Dave Parker was a 2nd.

Bezos seems like the type that would sit quiet in a dark corner and watch his wife get banged hardcore.

The Chiefs finished 2-14 the year before he left so it is understandable that he requested a trade. it wasn't like he went to a division rival. That said, just based on some of his comments, I don't think he necessarily was a huge fan of KC. He is more a Falcon than a Chief IMO.

He is an all-time great TE and Clark Hunt always praises him so he will always be a KC legend to some degree. Dude was money for those 8-15 yd catches.

How do you treat people when nobody's watching and you're not there in a professional context? That's the real mark.

At HIS charity talking to people who volunteer for HIS cause with HIS name attached to it? I'm sure it's simple and easy for him to be a class act. It's gotta be for anybody.

In comparison, though, I have an aunt and uncle whose backyard opens up to a golf course in the KC area. My dorky uncle in his 60s actually stopped Kelce and Mahomes on their golf cart as they were driving by and asked if they would sign some stuff. This was on their time, on their golf outing, and they didn't have to do shit for this old weirdo fan, but they both said sure, signed his crap, and even took a picture with him.

Tony isn't a class act. TRAVIS is the class act. And most other stories that fans have of interacting with him paint a similar picture.
