I don't see what the big deal is. We've drafted a ton of corners the last 2 years. Not everyone is going to make it. He got beat out by Murray and White who I believe were 4th and 6th rounders. Would it make you feel better had we cut White instead?

Giving Dorsey shit for missing on Russell while completely ignoring that he found an absolute gem in Mitchell to make up for it. CP never fails.

There had to be something behind the scenes on that one. I don't know how an organization known for patience and teaching so that guys pay off in 2-3 years just cuts bait on a pick like that. Somebody misread Russell in the FO. It is ultimately Dorsey's call, but to draft that guy there, someone else in the room must have been banging the table hard for him...

My guess was that he was humble throughout the draft process and then ran his mouth when he got in the door. Probably expected to be a starter opposite of Peters.

Or was very vocal about not getting playing time right off the bat.

It's not dependent on the year, ti's dependent on the contract amounts, and performance, of the players lost in FA. With the salary cap climbing rapidly, more big $$ contracts were given out, and so more higher round comp picks earned.

I've been assured by Dane and his minions that Dorsey's handling of the KeiVarae Russell monstrosity was the move of a "boss GM."

Sure, he had an almost unparalleled failure of a 3rd round draft pick, but he was smart enough to cut him immediately?

I love Dorsey, and hope he stays here for the rest of my adult lifetime. But the way CP makes excuses for the Russell debacle puzzles me.

Making the mistake was really bad, but finding Terrance Mitchell made up for it.

Every GM has bad misses. Hell even Belichick cut his first round DL from Florida after like 2 years.

Interesting Article:

Quote:

Compensatory picks are a reward for smart teams

When the NFL implemented compensatory draft picks in 1994, the idea was that the extra picks would lend a hand to the teams that got out-spent in free agency, which was then new in the league: Compensatory picks go to teams that lose more in free agency than they gain, and so the picks were envisioned as a safeguard against the rich raiding the rosters of the poor.

It hasn’t worked out that way, however. In a league with revenue sharing and a salary cap, there’s not much of a distinction between the rich and the poor.

Instead, compensatory picks have turned out to reward smart teams. The teams that have been wise about not over-spending in free agency and keeping themselves in good salary cap shape are the ones that keep getting lots of compensatory picks, while the teams that overspend in free agency are the ones that don’t receive compensatory picks.

As a result, the consistently good teams tend to be the teams that consistently get a lot of compensatory picks. And the teams that consistently try to spend themselves out of last place are the ones that don’t get a lot of compensatory picks.

The list of teams that have received the most compensatory picks since 1994 is pretty similar to the list of the best teams in football since 1994: The Ravens have received the most compensatory picks, and they’ve won two Super Bowls. The Packers have received the second-most, and they’ve also won two Super Bowls. The Patriots are fourth, and they’ve won five Super Bowls. The 10 teams that have had the most compensatory picks have won most of the Super Bowls since 1994, with a total of 14 titles for those 10 teams.

At the other end of the spectrum, the teams that don’t receive a lot of compensatory picks tend to be bad teams: There are 14 teams that have received fewer than 20 compensatory picks since the system started in 1994, and those 14 teams have won a combined two Super Bowls.

Compensatory picks help teams stock their roster with low-cost depth, which is helpful, but the real reason teams with a lot of compensatory picks do well is that teams with a lot of compensatory picks are good at managing their salary caps. A system that was supposed to reward the poor at the expense of the rich has actually rewarded the smart at the expense of the dumb.

I can list them all, and there are plenty. Laurence Maroney in teh first round is a pretty big one.

Also, look at the last couple of drafts for the Pats. Top 3 rounds have been pretty ugly TBH. But his moves in free agency, and later round picks, have made up for it to a pretty big degree.

big nasty kcnut 02-24-2017 05:10 PM

Their not signing romo. Also Alex Smith is our qb del with it.

BossChief 02-24-2017 05:15 PM

So KC will have 11 draft picks as most of us that follow this thought.

Now it's time for Dorsey to package some picks to go get some BIGTIME Impact guys.

No way more than 7 draft picks make the roster. If that many.

Quality > quantity
