You guys are stuck on the Alex Smith era.. Mahomes is a Thoughbred. Everyone knows a race horse will run itself into the ground if you continue to push it. Andy's job is to know when to pull in the reins a little. We we're scoring like a knife through butter as were the Rams. Andy had the chance to make sure we had the ball last on the 10 freaking yard line. With the win or at least a tie!. You run that damn clock down to almost nothing..It's coaching 101!

You have to score if you can. Period.

Andy will never learn clock management. It’s always been his crutch, just gotta hope Pat is good enough to drag him to the finish line.

So, once we were on the 10 it's a different situation and you really only have 3 tries to get that TD. I felt we should have been a bit more methodical when we got to around the 50 so we could ensure some clock got wasted. I actually told my wife when they called that penalty against the Rams that put us on the 10 that the penalty actually hurt us. Stopped the clock and put us to where we had 3 shots to score and that was it. If they don't call it, we can call a couple plays, waste more clock, and put the Rams backs against the wall a bit more. So I view it as situational. Should have wasted more clock earlier in the drive. Once you are on the 10, you kind of need to ensure you get a score.

They definitely should have ran it a few times. Ironically, even when giving us a hit to the helmet call on Harris the refs found a way to screw us. That shouldn’t have been a penalty. If that doesn’t happen it’s 2nd and 6 and we can run some clock and get the first down without scoring.

They knew what they were doing..that's why they are the all star crew

I don’t get why anyone would criticize the clock management in this one.

We ended up with 2 minutes, 3 timeouts, and the ball with a chance to win the game or go to OT.

That’s about perfect.

Bingo.

bunk argument based on hindsight and assumption.

A) You are assuming you will score a TD
B) You are assuming a FG to tie at the least

What you don't factor in..

A) One penalty for holding ****s it all up
B) A high powered offense needs only a FG to win if you don't get the TD

The best bet is score the TD and go up by 4. Make the offense drive the field with 0 TO's and expect your defense to play defense and defend 75 yards for one drive.

If our D couldn't stop them in a 40 secs or so from going 75 yards, WTF do you think we would keep them from scoring a FG if we didn't get the TD?

Ribbs67 11-20-2018 08:48 AM

I feel like when you have the chance you shorten the game up when opurtunity presents itself. Our last scoring drive was the perfect opportunity to do so. Only 3 more runs anywhere in that series by Hunt to spin the clock..and we win that game. Or at least force OT. Trust me I'm the first in the nervous Nancy line saying we have to score..but I could see us scoring too quickly a mile away. Screaming mix in a run or 2. I just didn't get the reasoning behind it. We scored on 1-10 if I remember right. Like a poster posted before..if we run it and score then be it..but I feel we rushed it too much considering the Rams didn't have any time outs left.

11Chiefs 11-20-2018 08:48 AM

I'd rather score. Don't let Andy try controlling the clock . Score quick, score often .

Nope. We got the ball back twice with opportunities to win or tie. That's exactly the position we realistically could have hoped to be in. The offense spit the bit. Just not quite good enough to win these types of games I guess, considering we've played in two and lost them both by the same margin

The _efense wasn’t good (hell, they gave up a TD in one minute shortly thereafter) but we did get the ball back with 1:44 and three timeouts. Mahomes tossed a pick. It’s not like we didn’t have a chance.

Ribbs67 11-20-2018 08:54 AM

Our Defense needs to learn how to make the stop we need when we need it .. Scandrick needs to make that interception..and Mahomes needs to take care of the ball better...but anything after our last scoring possession to me is on the coaching staff because it never should have gone that far

Score immediately vs. run clock

Michael Lombardi made a great point on the Border Patrol today.

You got to play it like basketball now. The clock has to be seen by how many plays you give the other team. You burn 40 seconds off the clock, that's 5 plays you aren't giving the Rams. Don't run of bounds when there's no need to.

Man, I typed that under my Bingo response and then deleted it. I thought that was a great way to frame it.
