Can someone tell me why the **** Bill Cowher is a HOF inductee?
He's a young guy and he retired early. Like... good for him and all... very successful coach with a successful life, but he basically stopped coaching at age 50. Doug Pederson is 52 already. He would have an excuse for retiring after 14 seasons (once/if he reaches that mark). Cowher doesn't. And he wasn't all that sensational as a player. As a coach, he didn't innovate or revolutionize anything. He was handed the Chuck Noll franchise on a silver platter. Didn't have to fight the stigma of losing on his new team at all. Didn't have to look over his shoulder for his job. Was given every resource to succeed.
Went to two Super Bowls spaced many years apart. Won one of them. That's nice and all, but people were bitching at Andy up until this year for never winning the big one, and some people had the audacity to claim he didn't even deserve the HOF if he didn't win it with KC. And that's ****ing bullshit. Cowher has ONE championship and far less coaching time and quit his career early when he reached the top. He's had a cushy desk job for years.
In my opinion, if you're going to make the HOF as a coach, you better have some ACTUAL longevity as a coach. Don't win a Super Bowl and then retire early. That's not a guy who LOVES football the way Andy Reid or Bill Belichick do. Cowher is a guy who's pretty good at it, likes it pretty well, but is content to sit on his money and not put in the grind once he reaches the top.
