Bat Out of Hell was the first rock album (well, 8-track) that I ever bought. I'd heard of Meat Loaf, and I was watching Saturday Night Live when he appeared on it. I was wowed.

He wrote lyrics for Robert Paulson. He's Reginald Kenneth Dwight's Bernard.

WHAT.THE.****.DID.I.JUST.WATCH ? ? ?

I swear I thought that was an act from the original Gong Show with Chuck Barris. That would have fit in perfectly.

I’ve always liked it.

It’s Walter Hills ode to 60s biker movies with a totally 80s aesthetic. So it’s a pretty strange combo. The Steinman songs are great, but definitely not 60s. Just typical 80s pop.

It’s got a cool cast, cool vibe and good action for the era.

I consider myself a connoisseur of the internet, but somehow this had escaped my viewing pleasure. So much awesomeness in 3:16.

And count me among those who loved Bat Out of Hell. I heard the tail end of the obit on NPR on Wednesday and at first thought that Meatloaf had passed. Nevertheless, I played most of the album last night. Those songs have been playing through my mind all day. Good stuff and getting older sucks, sucks, sucks.
