I wonder what the Nielsen ratings were on this game. It was on National TV as their were only 3 channels. I was 7 years old and remember all of our family sitting around the tv.

Vin was an ICON... RIP

Wow, that was in SF and listen to the roar, must be because he played for the Raiders.

I just turned 30 and it dawned on me how recent my senior year in high school feels like it was just yesterday. Then it dawned on me again that in that same time I will be 43 and then again 60, so 2 more of those and I’ll be ****ing 60 years old and that time alone flew by.

I now know why everyone always says time flys and enjoy your youth. It’s gone fast and it sucks that we spend most of it working our jobs and commuting and doing house work.

because of the earthquake?

2nd best baseball announcer ever behind the Gunner Bob Prince.

Loved Vin's calling of Koufax's perfect game and his bit on socialism.

One of the legends.

This RIP hurts. Vin Scully was such a legend, such a master. The one man booth has died along with Vin.

Now we get 4 person booths, everyone talking over each other. I watch MLB games on mute these days. Times have changed and not for the better.

Damn. RIP Mr. Scully. You will always be the best.

The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake occurred on California's Central Coast on October 17 at 5:04 p.m.

Demonpenz 08-03-2022 02:50 PM

On October 17, 1989, at 5:04 p.m. PT, soon after Al Michaels and Tim McCarver started the ABC telecast for Game 3 of the World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics, the ground began to shake beneath Candlestick Park. The 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake rolled through, bringing death and destruction. The Bay Area pulled together and baseball took a backseat. Through archival footage, previously untold stories from players, officials, San Francisco and Oakland citizens affected by the earthquake, and a scientific look back at what happened below the earth, this moving film revisits that night 25 years ago. The record book shows that the A's swept the Giants, but that has become a footnote to the larger story of the 1989 World Series.
