Soto is only signed for one year. It's a nice move but the Yankees gave up a bunch for him without a long term deal.

Then you got to do the pitching side. **** Jordan Lyles is a 10 to 15 million as a starter. Sonny Gray is a 25 million per year guy.

Judge isn’t a DH

Arizona only had the 21st highest payroll last season.

As an Angels' fan, I'm very glad that they didn't put that many eggs in one basket. Of course, they could have traded him before the deadline last season and at least gotten something for him. Might not have been the haul that some wanted, but even a couple of young, talented players would be better than nothing. I would have traded both him and Trout to get as much young talent as possible. Every veteran free agent signing that the Angels have done has been a disaster. Pujols, Rendon, Hamilton, Wells, Matthews Jr, Upton.

Geezo...I'm not even sure the numbers matter anymore these days

FloridaMan88 12-09-2023 03:00 PM

Those high California state income taxes will take a bite out of that contract.

Not primarily, no, but there is a lot of value in being able to competently play all three outfield positions versus being Kyle Schwarber.

$700 Million over 10 years for a 30-year-old baseball player who still has to recover from his SECOND Tommy John surgery in 5 years. WTF? That makes no sense financially.

lewdog 12-09-2023 03:06 PM

Loser ass Dodgers need another shortened season to win anything.

****ing losers.

dlphg9 12-09-2023 03:08 PM

This will be thought of the worst contract in baseball in probably 3 years. He turns 30 next year.

I can't believe he didn't take the Pirates' offer of a renamed bridge and a free parking spot.

notorious 12-09-2023 03:10 PM

His agent had to just throw out an obscene number while holding back his laughter.

Pure insanity.

What the hell is the purpose of the luxury tax if teams can just skirt around it like that?

He's getting paid for being the most prodigious power source in baseball while being able to play average CF, thus opening up DH for another quality hitter.

There's a fairly substantial distinction there.
