Well, you don’t name your sports team after something that you think sucks, it’s something that represents local or regional pride, maybe exemplifies some positive attributes you want the team identified with. I read an article a while back that concluded that when the Vikings first visited Iceland, they stopped along the way and kidnapped a bunch of Irish women to be their (ahem) "brides". Since Iceland was the base for visiting North America, one might give the Vikings credit for introducing the redhead to North America. That's one that probably shouldn't be bragged about, though.
