Jets are getting a LOT of buzz for having a 41 yo (by the time the Playoffs start) dude coming off an Achilles, who is a known malcontent playing for the least contented franchise ever. Everyone likes their D, but dominant defense is hard to sustain over time.

His defenses in his championship years -- 6, 1, 4, 8, 1, 7, 6.

On average, the 5th best defense in football in years he won the title.

It looks like there are maybe a half dozen guys that won with a defense outside the top 10?

2006 Peyton -- 30
2007 Eli -- 15
2009 Brees -- 15
2011 Manning -- 24
2019 Mahomes -- 12
2022 Mahomes -- 21

So about 1/4 of the championships over the last 25 years have been won by defenses that weren't genuinely good. 9 of those championships by teams that were in the top 5 (so I think you would call those 'elite' defenses).

My worry, ultimately, is that we might not be a top 10 defense this year. I'm awfully concerned about that CB2 slot (and its impact on even McDuffie; he'll be needed outside more than ever).

This appears to be a team constructed more similarly to the 2019 model designed to score lots of points and create an opportunistic defense that's just good enough. Not a ton of teams have had success with that plan.

Josh Allen -- 28: 2 Pro Bowls

Patrick Mahomes -- 28: 2 MVPS, 3 Rings, 6 Pro Bowls

I mean when you lay them out like that, it's pretty much a massacre.
