I have not bought a single bag of chips in the past year.

Pepe Silvia 10-16-2024 02:43 PM

There's something strange about this article, the headline makes it seem like they're putting more chips per bag but when you read the article there's very little mention of regular bags actually getting more chips. There's no mention that I can find that regular bags are actually say going from 16 oz. to 18 oz. The only mention of bags actually getting bigger I can find are these two lines.

The owner of Lay’s, Doritos, Tostitos and Ruffles chips will put more chips in some bags to claw back customers tired of higher prices with skimpier bags.
Quote:

A PepsiCo spokesperson told CNN that Tostitos and Ruffles “bonus” bags will contain 20% more chips for the same price as standard bags in select locations.
It doesn't really sound like your average bag of chips is going to change unless you can find a "bonus bag" at one of the "select locations".

yeah they maybe legit did these things in the pandemic. The pandemic is way over. This is just corporate greed. Let’s just keep the price at pandemic prices and since there is no supply issues anymore, we will increase our profits. That’s not cool.

The first one I noticed was Ritz crackers, not having a full sleeve as they had not spent the money on new packaging, just quit filling what they already had by 5 crackers per sleeve.

We just quit buying them and after looking at the link/article Bowser provided, it has been a good thing.

Just today, in Sam's, the coffee Mrs. likes, in those K cups, has gone from 100 in a box to 80 for the same price. If it was for me, I would have said **** you and not bought them, but hey.

I've noticed prices down a bit on a lot of food stuff at the store. Still expensive but a bit less than last year

Yeah, that being said, it would be pretty ignorant of me to make an issue out of something so small, just nod my head and smile.

Another thing I noticed this week, inflation related when going to Aldis.

Remember when the quarter you put in the shopping cart was kind of a big deal?

Not so much anymore, there were 4 loose carts with the quarter still in them.

Some people do that on purpose, regardless of the economy. You can count me as one of them. Back when I was on a food budget and shopped at Aldi's, I always left a quarter in the cart for the next person. You can label it as "paying it forward" or a "random act of kindness" or whatever. I just know there were people out there that needed that quarter more than I did.

Interesting, as I hadn't seen it before with Aldis. The Mrs. kind of echoed your take on it as well when I told her about it.

We only recently, the last few years, started doing some shopping there as they often have a better selection of produce than the other options.

My previous trip, a lady wanted my cart when I was leaving and handed me a quarter to take it.

When I shopped there I saw it a lot. The old 'A quarter for you cart, sir?' move was also standard operating procedure at Aldi's.
