So yeah I've been swayed to a point here, if he makes them a bigger headache for the AFCE for a while, the Rooneys should probably go ahead and pull the trigger

I don't think there's anything really wrong with Rodger's mind/football acumen. i think it's hubris. If he would just accept that he's not 30 anymore and hand the ball off more and get the ball into his playmakers' hands quicker he'd probably still be very effective. But he just won't accept that he isn't the same guy anymore.
He's kind of like Russell Wilson in that respect. When Russ was really "cooking" he was running the ball around 6 times a game. Then he decided that he wanted to be a pocket passer and not run the ball, and his carries dropped to about 3/game. And his efficiency dropped right off a cliff, because he isn't a pocket passer at all. Rodgers didn't run the ball that much, but he relied on his ability to move around the pocket. to be elusive within the pocket, which has diminished a lot recently. But instead of adapting, as Favre or Elway did, he's still trying to be MVP Rodgers.
it's just hubris, imo.
Now, if he did find that humility and start adapting his game to the new circumstances, that Rodgers could be a pita.
