Hell that might not even get you 2 decent beers at a restaurant these days. The quality of some of these more modern theaters like AMC Prime or a real IMAX are also a big difference from back in the day when tickets were under $10.

Holladay 12-31-2022 07:58 PM

I will side a bit with 007. In my small town they just upgraded the 1950's seats with 1990's seats. We now have cup holders on both arms! And nicely padded seats!

Movie going is situationally dependent based upon population density and logistics.

I went to a theatre in a large city and it was outstanding. I could even order some food and an adult beverage. I could definitely understand movie viewing under those circumstances.

BWillie 12-31-2022 08:15 PM

So they are really making 5 of these things? I knew they were making 3, but someone told me 5.

I think a big part of the success of the first one was the experience. No one had seen a 3-D movie of that high a quality before. It wasn't the offset image thing or the stupid colored glasses thing. And it was a perfect amusement park ride experience with a few helpful chemicals of your choice. The color palate and the bizarre world itself.

Is this movie going to be "an experience" like the first?

If they keep making $2B+ each time, I don't see why they would ever stop making them.

I saw something like that. Money grab.

You can't bank on "cool" graphics anymore. There needs to meat in the story.

Holladay 01-01-2023 12:29 AM

I guess they are going to try and do a Star Wars gimmick.

PT Barnum "There is a sucker born every minute".

Well, it could be worse. Like Marvel shit.

Holladay 01-01-2023 02:00 AM

Agreed 100%.

I guess if I could I would as well:) See PT Barnum above.

Holladay 01-01-2023 02:01 AM

As to cinematography as the byline to watching a movie, Peter Jackson knocks it out of the park without rainbow colors.

Our matinee prices are almost $14. I can own the movie for a few dollars more and watch it as much as I want.

this is indeed a game changer

Tell me you haven't seen Coco without telling me you haven't seen Coco..

Or Fox and the Hound when she leaves Todd in the forest.. or The Lion King when Mufasa died.. or the beginning montage of Up.. or The Land Before Time when Little Foot's mom dies.. or Iron Giant when he says "I go, you stay. NO following."

You can cry over Old Yeller. Anything else, you're just a bitch.

I would put "Where the Red Fern Grows" on that same list as "Old Yeller"...when I was 10.

When’s the last time you watched one of those old movies that tugged your heart strings?

Marley and Me wasn’t animated but it was similarly sad as Old Yeller.

Lol.. but it’s all so arbitrary! Old Yeller is still fake, too!

News flash, ALL movies are fake. But to a 10 yro kid watching Old Yeller, that pulls the heart strings. Not a grown as man.

KC_Connection 01-02-2023 04:57 PM

I've cried at plenty of movies. Also seems to happen more often the older I get. Now Avatar 2 wasn't one of them, but I get it. That one scene with his son was a tough one.

Well duh. That was my point. All movies are fake, but I'm not going to shame anyone for crying during a scene that is specifically designed to make people cry.

Do men stop having feelings when they turn 18 or something? You start getting bills sent to your house and all emotions go out the window?

Only movie I've ever actually cried from was Titanic. I was probably about 9 or 10 when I saw it in theaters. The scene at the end where they finally go back on the lifeboats to search for survivors, they're wading through all of the frozen bodies and they come across a young woman holding her infant. That got your boy. The tears started flowing.

But I don't begrudge any man who would cry during movies.

And agreed on getting more emotional as I get older. Not sure what's up with that but I've definitely come a lot closer to crying while watching movies lately than I ever did back in my teenage years.

And we just found out today that the older theater of the two is closing permanently on Friday. Can't wait to see the price hike on the lone survivor now. This town sucks.

It is only flash and spectacle. There is no story. If I want a thrill, I will ride a rollercoaster.

This is where the movie should have ended. Everyone bows, the music swells, the credits roll. Instead, it dragged on for another interminable, meaningless 30+ minutes, and I had to piss really, really bad. :# Turns out I could have just peed and left and missed nothing of importance.

That and those stupid tree things were the only real problems I had with LOTR.

I made it half an hour into that movie and I had to turn it off. Kudos to them, 15 more minutes than I could take during Harry Potter which somehow was worse.

DrunkBassGuitar 01-06-2023 08:51 AM

I listened to a review and they brought up a good point, including Spider was just like Cameron showing off. Spider is a human in a CGI movie but it looks totally natural. Pandora looks like a real place and having an actual human actor in there doesn't look weird at all.

I need to go see it again

Molitoth 01-11-2023 07:44 PM

Just saw in it IMAX 3D and it blew my mind. (It was my first IMAX 3D experience).
The visuals were amazing, and I was totally immersed.
Didn't care to even look for holes in the plot... I just enjoyed this one.

Watched this at a friend's tonight. 60" 4k tv and it looked beautiful. I actually liked this one more than the first one. That said I'm gonna try to get to a theater before it's gone. I kept thinking this probably is amazing looking in theaters.
