Clemenza dying was sort of un-climatic, but oh well.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa will be traded to the Baltimore Orioles for infielder Jerry Hairston and at least two minor-leaguers, pending physicals and approval from commissioner Bud Selig and the players' association. An Orioles source told ESPN's Tim Kurkjian that the only way the trade will not happen is if someone fails a physical.
Thank you, Jesus!

With the steriod testing going on, Sosa will be the incredible shrinking man.

If he fails the physical, I'm going up there and capping his ass.

In this case, most definitely.

The saga needs to end.

Can't say as I blame you. I think it would have been a disaster for the Cubs if he'd stayed.

SHIT!

An Aubrey Huff to the Cubs for Farnsy and the Orioles' prospects (among others) trade is being bandied about a bit.

That'd be nice.

Hoover 01-29-2005 07:35 AM

Disclaimer: Hoover is a homer Cubs fan

For the Cubs to have a chance this year they had to move Sammy. Prior, Wood, Walker all spoke out about Sammy. While I will wiss his production, I think its best to move on and get what you can.

The Cubs will pay half of Sosa's 2005 tab, about 7 mil, thus saving them 15 mil over the next two years.

Now what I have heard is that Chicago will take the prospects they get from Balt and make a trade for Huff.

Harriston Jr. is a 2nd baseman but can also play left, plus he's a lead off guy the Cubs really need. If he can play left, and the Cubs can swing a deal to get Huff, this is a good deal for the Cubs, and I'll be very happy.

If they sit on this deal, and we have to sign some old dude like Burnitz (sp) I'll be pissed.

Ultra Peanut 01-29-2005 07:37 AM

Hairston can play left? Kickass.

He played in the outfield some last year. He's fast, and is a lead off guy too.

Hoover 01-29-2005 07:50 AM

From the Orioles web site

Suffered through a second consecutive injury-filled season...Missed the first six weeks with a broken right ring finger sustained in Spring Training. He returned to the lineup, emerged as a solid outfielder and then sustained a fractured ankle diving for a fly ball on Aug. 17, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season...Did sock a homer in a 6-4 loss to the Yankees on July 31.

chiefz 01-29-2005 09:26 AM

Not a surprise at all, I hear that everytime his name was mentioned at the annual Cubs convention in Chicago everyone boo'ed.

Sure-Oz 01-29-2005 09:55 AM

I heard they wanted to trade him to the Royals but wanted Affeldt and another prospect, we didn't budge thank goodness. I would've loved to have a power guy like him but not for what the cubs wanted.
